Mobile 1 vs. Royal purple

I am getting ready to change my new used motor over to synthetics. I used Royal Purple in the old one. I was just wondering if Mobile 1 was any better or worse than Royal Purple.

I would use the Mobil 1, it has proven to give more consistent results than RP.

Got any links to these results? Any of them quantitative rather than qualitative? Just curious since most of what I read about fluids tend to be people's experiences.

It depends upon what you are looking for.

Royal Purple is the 'rage' right now in elite racing circles. They have both 'street' and 'race' formulations. The race oils don't have all the street type additives and detergents. The race oils are blended solely for racing, and should not be used for extended street driving. The racing oils really produce on the race circuit. Royal Purple is a definite player in the racing industry, and is not cheap.

Good Luck!

If it's a relatively stock motor and you're not beating the crap out of it all the time it's a moot point. I've used Mobil 1 'cause it's cheaper and damn good enough.... But... if you're the kind of person that must fill their tires with pure Nitrogen instead of air......

I have royal purple and it's the stuff, I never liked mobile 1 garbage.
Go royal purple, it's been great for me.
I love the fact that my car warms up really quickly, around 2 mins the needle is right above the C mark and i did notice a slight HP gain.

The warming up thing has nothing to do with your oil. And I'll pay you $100 for dyno slips proving any power gain whatsoever from Mobil to RP across five runs....

It's kinda like how my car feels soooo much faster after I spend 8 hours waxing and buffing it...

That's from better airflow around your car panels right? j/k

I would prefer Mobile 1 over Royal Purple any day of the year. I ran both in all my vehicles and inlcuding my race prepped cars. Based on just draining the oil, you can tell how much weaker the viscosity of Royal Purple is vs Mobile 1. It was like comparing water to a milk shake. Pathetic. This was in the same car changed at the same 1K interval. This was also under heavy drag racing conditions. I could also hear a bit more of a knock with Royal Purple. BTW, this was in my WRX which on 400awhp on pump gas. 5w30 weighted oil. Also, on our T-78 powered Supra, we run Mobile 1 and Redline as well. We tried Royal Purple and had the same result. The Lighting is running Mobile 1 as well. In my/our (our team) Royal Purple is not something we will be using again.

The extra thin viscosity of the thinner Royal Purple oils is what makes the extra power. It's only a few hp, but the savings in windage and pumping are there. Personally, I'm not into the watery thin oils, but they seem to be one of the few companies out there that can make watery thin oils engines can live on without damage.

They're #1 in those catagories where that last few hp are needed.

I've never run their oils personally, but if I did, it would probably be a thicker viscosity.

Good Luck!

Oh wow, it amazes me how you people talk as if you know so much about the oil and your comments ar just funny as hell.

This guy has a 400 All wheel drive turbo WRX and supra and he is running 5w30 of a KNOWN thinner oil than the compitition and he is on a team??? damn anyway the smartest one on here seems to be N2oMike with his post, you guy's should read and learn something before you critisize it.

RMB to your post, what do you think is actully warming up when your car does, Your oil is warming up lame brain and your oil has everything to do with it, thickness, viscousity, type, and RPM engine idle all contribute to this.

Also you better have my money ready cause that dyno can be easily attainted.

Mobile 1 is good but i personally think it's not the best, it's all hype and talk, Just cause Mobile/Exxon makes alright gas doesn't mean that they make great oil.
It's good, but not great!

Anyhow people that's a wrap.

The temperature gauge in a Maxima measures coolant temperature, not oil.

MaxEffect414, no offense, but your pathetic. Your bashing everyone who had relatively useful responses, and all you can provide is how your engine warms up faster because of Royal Purple oil. Were you aware the gauge on your dash indicates the coolant temperture? Hence, what your saying is your coolant system is effective. Unless you have an aftermarket oil temp. monitor, which I would doubt you do, you have contributed nothing to the thread. Also, the only true way to determine which oil is best for you is too run them both and determine which one you like, based on what criteria are important to you. This may involve having an oil analysis done. It's that simple.

PS - I use Mobil 1 oil on 5000 mile intervals and it suits me fine. I'm not saying its the best option availible. But it is what I prefer, if that means anything. I would however suggest purchasing a high-quality filter if you are planning to extend your drain intervals. Mobil 1 and Bosch are my preference.

All I have to say is this....... Try alot of different oils. Different brands and even different viscosity ratings as well....... Find out which oil and weight of oil you prefer, use that particular oil and be happy...... lol

I do have an oil temp and exhuast temp and Airfuel gauge.

Do whatever you guy's want, i used to work in a mechanics shop where we fix taxi's and i can tell you that we had a nice hooked up car and we use royal purple and the car runs 11's.

peace

How about we try this again; this time ... without resorting to 3rd grade antics.

If we can't act like adults, then the next time I'll just lock it instead of cleaning up your messes.
