Clean out intake manifold ?

I was cleaning the TB the other day and noticed how dirty the rest of the intake was (as far as i could see with flashlight). Made the TB seem like it was clean already. Anyone done this ? Reccomended ? Costly ? (intake gaskets + ? )

Thanks for the help , martin

If you really to take the time it's probably worth it. I've installed 3 VIs; a '95 with 120k, '97 with probably 80k, and my '99 with 40k. The '95 was pretty dirty, and the owner said his car ran much better after installing the new (clean) manifold and cleaning the lower intake manifold with Throttle Body Cleaner. On the '97 and my car there wasn't too much to clean, and I never really noticed much of a difference. That's been my experience. It'll only cost you time and 1 gasket for the intake manifold.

Takes alot of time.. i dont it to my 96 max.... u just have to buy gaskets.. i took my TB out cleaned it.. my IAC Unit out cleaned that.. i took the intake manifold out cleaned it out.. and lower intake manifold and cleaned it.. big difference in the car... it was alot of work to remove all those parts... if u plan on DIY... u better remember where all the parts go... lol

i did it on mine as well. it was quite a difference (also was quite dirty too). it's worth the time. i actually took some grinding tools and grinded away the grim so there was a fresh surface. just get the wire brush looking drill bits. they'll make a big improvement.

I had a look under the hood this morning. The intake runner would be easy to remove with one gasket. The secon piece bolting to the heads looks like it may be more work and disturbing of gaskets than i'm interested in.

Would there be an improvement doing the intake and the heads section the best i could without removing ? From what i can see down the TB the intake runner looks like the inside of a barbque.

Cleaning the vb did help, I can hardly feel the engine idle in drive with no a/c.

10 year old thread.....

Find out what your codes mean here via cross referencing your Pxxx codes with the ECU codes
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ere-first.html

P0102 - not listed
P0113 - not listed
P0133 - 0409
P0720 - 1102
P1574 - not listed
P1610 - not listed
P1614 - not listed
P1800 - not listed

Also, a number of your codes are not listed anywhere in the 4th gen section. How did you find these codes?

Nice 10 year old thread bump.. This is a waste of time imo. Mainly because the pcv valve sucks oil droplets into the intake from the valve covers, so if you clean it, it will remain clean for a few days, after that it is back to the regular oil build up unless you install a catch can. You do get better results keeping your throttle body clean however.
