FYI...89 Intermittent Looses Power for a couple of seconds
I recently had a thread posted for this problem and wanted to share the fix with anyone that has a similar problem. The problem is the car would intermittently lose power while driving at any speeds then come back, as if the car shut off with no response when pushing the accelerator. It would sometimes stall at lights, tolls, etc. No chech engine lite was illuminated on dash. This is what I did to correct my problem...
1. Located ECU unit under left kick panel (passenger side).
2. Put ECU into diagnostic mode while engine idle in park position.
3. Observed the red and greeen LED's flashing code. (Got a 1 flash from red LED and 2 flashes from green LED).
4. Looked up code 12 from Haynes repair manual that said Air Flow Meter is bad.
5. Checked all voltages on pins of AIr Flow Meter wire harness instructed by Haynes (all looked good even at idle).
I couldn't find a used replacement Air Flow Meter and new prices are between $330 to $425 were too much for my budget so I cleaned all contacts on the harness and on the Meter. So far so good, the intermittent problem that occurred within hours of driving hasn't resurfaced in four days of heavy driving!!! Thanks to those who offered tips about ECU and MAF sensor. Your help was very much appreciated and keep sharing the info!!!
