i'm goin to clean the throttle body, my question is "wat kind of spray should i use to clean it? would w40 be okay?"

n also, inside the throttle body there is a butterfly plate...can i lift that plate up to clean the plate n also clean watever is behind it?

sorry for all the question, but this is my first time doin it so i want to make sure i know wat i'm doin.

They sell "Throttle body cleaner" in auto parts stores. Use a toothbrush to clean the butterfly plate and inside the throttle body.

DO NOT use WD-40
that is oil/grease...you want to use a degreaser

look to the left of the tb opening...where the throttle cables connect...just push that and it'll open the butterfly up...then clean inside with a rag

 

use carb or throttble body cleaner at local car part store.. u can move the butterfly plate around.. clean all around it and dig as far in as you can with tooth brush cleaning brush ect. then use somethign to keep your butterfly valve open and let it dry for like an hour..(i sprayed in over half a can it left a pool in there..) then put everythigback and start your car. some people will telll you to start your car witha ll that tb cleaner stuff in there but i dont feel safe about letting that stuff burn through out my engine. think it can damage something.

 

be mindfull of the nozzle on the cleaner...it will shoot off and go down into your precious little VQ...

If it hasn't been cleaned in a while, you will defenitely notice the difference.

 

like someone mentioned...be careful of that nozzle/straw
it shoots off sometimes

after i cleaned it, i just started the car up...and let the fluid go through the rest of the TB and combustion chamber...

 

thanks for the link...now my only question is...i have the oem air filter box...how do i go about takin that off before i can follow that write-up???

remove clips from the upper airbox.. remove teh hose clamp that connects the tb to the air intake piping. remove the 3 breather hoses that connect the the big plastic thing on the stock intake.. disconnect the 2 plug from the maf... then pull the whole thing off as 1 peice..this is good casue it gives you alot of room to work, and its easy to out back together.. hope this helps..

 

i still need to clean my throttle body... so all this information is gonna be helpful... just one problem... is it really easy as everyone says it is... i'm not too much of a mechanic or anythin'....

 

its cake man..if you put your nwt intake in yourself, this will be cake

 

i have no clue wat u just said ...j/k, but yeah...hopefully it'll start to make sense when the airbox is in front of me.

ahha.. when u look at it.it will come to you..just rememebr to use come common snese and dont take off more than you need..have fun man.. i got a wierd hissing sound after i cleaned my TB..souds like its comming fro near the injectors..anyoen else got that or know whats up?

another question...the silver clamp in the pic...do i just use force to slide it over or is there a better way to remove/loosen the clamp??? cuz i saw that clamp in my engine n its clamped pretty tight to the hose.

The first thing you need to do is get a Haynes Manual for yor car, It's very helpful and has detail pics of simple maintenance you can do for your car. The first qustion anyone should ask here is, Where do I get a HAynes Manual?

 

Just use a pair of pliers to squeeze the tabs at the top of the clamps. That will loosen them and you can slide them down the hoses (don't take them off... you're likely to lose them)

 

i finally got around cleaning my throttle body n changin the fuel filter. overall, the task was fairly simple...except that changin the fuel filter was kinda messy. so, i just want to thanks everyone who contributed to this thread n gave me adivce.

now i just hope i get better gas mileage than my current stingy 280miles/tank

How did you change the fuel filter? I tried that and couldn't get my hands into any decent position to get the screws. When I finally got a phillips head screwdriver onto the top screw, it wouldn't budge.

Assuming you did all the steps to shut down the fuel pump and depressurize the system, did you take the filter out of the bracket before you undid the screws? I can't even figure out how the dealer's mechanic would do it.

 

yes, pull the fuel filter out from the bracket...that way, at least u can have better access to the screws. but i would recommend u takin the whole OEM airbox, MAF piece out first...that way u can reach the fuel filter with no problem, n also cleanin the throttle body at the same time.

yeah, its nearly impossible to reach the fuel filter w/out removin air box n MAF piece. so thats y i follow the instruction at www.motorvate.ca for cleanin the throttle body (which requires u to remove the air box n MAF) n at the same time changin the fuel filter.

Changing the fuel filter and the PCV valve is a real b--ch. No need to remove anything but your fstb. You can easily remove canister from the upper hose and the lower hose. It is more difficult to unscrew from the canister because to tends to move.

 

I have next to no mechanical skills but didn't have to remove the FSTB bar for the fuel filter replacement, what about the PCV valve, how easy is that to replace?

 

it's a b--ch to replace but anyone can do it.
