Get it, just see if you can get it checked out by a mechanic before you purchase it. If everything checks out ok then offer $3000.00 and get it.

If you have money in hand, even at a dealer, they will usually go for it. In other words tell them, "I have been saving for months and I have $3000 in cash, will you take that?"

It has worked for me in the past.

You know, the old "money talks, suckers walk" bit.

If they don't bite, then tell them about the things that it is going to need. Usually, tires, exhaust, clutch, and the old "it has kind of a lot of miles on it..."

Sounds like a decent car and do as D-sta says -- have a mechanic check it over. Just listen for the ticking (you know the drill)

If I were you, I'll wait until next spring, and save up some money.

By next spring, the 97-8 maximas w/ 100K miles will be worth $5500. If you dont' have that much, 95-6 will be worth 4500.

Just my opinion. nothing offensive or anything. consider new ways...

I really doubt he would take 3k for it, he's losing out on 1000 bucks. Unless this is the friendliest guy on the universe or something

Good luck man

you guys do know that people jack the price way up just to catch suckers like yall (no offence intended) that dont think he will come way down. IMO I dont think the car is worth 4k unless it is absolutely perfect and had the VTCs already replaced.

I asked $2500 for my 90 and would have actually taken $1500 but since the guy asked if I would take 2K for it then I made $500 more than I was expecting.

Just something to think about.

Especially if you take him the NADA or whatever book you got the 3300 figure from to him. I mean if its only worth 3300 why would you pay more.

people have really lost the art of negotiation now a days. I mean my dad just got my sister a car from a dealer...they started out wanting 13k and he wound up getting it for 6k thats more than half off. Another person would have just paid the price they were asking and the dealer would have made a killing.

Don't go any higher.... Walk away, cash in hand. Come back in a week, with the same drill. If he still doesn't take it, walk away, come back later. He will evetually either sell it to you for $3000 or he will have to wholesale it out for much less money then that unless he finds a sucker to pay what he wants. He'd probably see about $1800-2200 at a wholesale auction. There are OTHER 3rd Gen SE's out there. If this one sells, there will be another.

I bought my SE 5 Spd for $1500, I have about $300 into gotta fix-its, and about $1200 into I want to upgrade-its. That includes....

Gotta Fixit's

Windshield wipe arm & pivot
3 out of 4 window regulators
1 rear brake caliper
12 exhaust manifold studs

Wanta upgrad-its
1998 Max SE 16" wheels and Kuhmo 225/50-15 tires
Warpspeed Y pipe
Warpspeed 2.5" B pipe w/ resonator (ordered)
Edlebrock RPM series 2.5" in/out muffler (ordered)
Hooker 2.5" Twin slashcut tip
Popcharger intake
eBay cheapie 01+ Front Strut Bar
(2) Cans Red capiler paint (anybody want a can?)

So far I'm real happy with my 12 year old, $3000 car. It's no where near as fast as my MR2SC, doesn't handle near as well, won't make big billowy smoke clouds like my MR2 when I drop the cluth at 5000 rpm. But the MR2 doesn't hold four people comfortably, you can't hold a quiet conversation on the freeway at 105 mph, and you can only go about half as far on a tank of gas in the MR2.

One of these days I'll set up a web page and post pictures. One of these days.......
