strange sound at high RPM

I have been hearing a strange sound when I wind out my car. It is a "whoosh" sound that happens sometimes when I'm over 4,000 rpm and virtually every time I shift at high rpm.

Has anyone else had this happen? It seems to be drawing some power at the upper end, too when it makes the sound. I think it sounds like some kind of blowoff (that's not right, but that's what it SOUNDS like) It definitely doesn't sound good.

thanks for your input,

chris

ALSO

it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Definitely in the right front somewhere.

I get a sound similar to that because I have a cai.

When I punch the gas when it's idling or when I shift a certain way, it'll make a cool woosh sound. Also if you push the gas just right while diving it'll make a whistling sound that's similar to a turbo spooling.

The woosh sound I have is just a large gush of air being sucked into the motor when the throttle body opens. And the whistling sound is just air passing over the throttle body plate when it's at a certain angle.

Most everyone probably has experienced this already.

Check the vaccuum hoses from the power valve actuator and the surge tank...(runs behind the upper plenum) It could be leaking and not operating the power valve inself in the upper plenum... most likely were the two hoses connect to the surge tank...

he's replaced his USDM motor with a JDM DORIFTO GTR TT NAWZ motor since then and now.
