Those that change their own oil...

I've done some searches and can't find anything on this topic so I'll ask. In the past I've always just taken my car to the dealership and let them do the oil+lube for $25 or whatever it costs, but since I got the Max I've been changing my own oil. The question is...what exactly is included with the lube part of oil+lube that you get at Jiffy Lube or the dealership? Is it something that we can do ourselves or should I periodically take it to the dealer and let them do just the lube? And how often should it be done? Thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Lube is an old fashion term that use to mean something (putting grease on the wheel bearings?) but now it consists of putting some grease on the door hinges and thats about it.

I have always done my own oil. Use Mobil 1, and OEM or Mobil 1 filters. When I do the change I check the level of the fluids, including the battery. If the battery is low add some distilled water. (Since I'm using Mobil 1 I change the oil/filter every 5-6K miles.)

No lube because the wheel bearings are packed and sealed. They only lube if there's a nozzle there and most new cars don't have them now.

These cars are so easy to do oil changes...I don't even have to jack the car up....I just reach in from the front passenger side tire and I can access the drain plug & filter....I have a short & wide oil catch pan (with a spout) that makes the whole process a real breeze...

Lube

Most of the time they say they lube, but unless you stand next to them and see them do it, I doubt they lube anyway.
I do my own oil changes.
How about manual fluid change??? how easy is that?? I don't know if i should do it myself???

The lube points they talk about are on certain vehicles like trucks and 4-wheel drive things mainly now. Many cars today have sealed fittings that don't require re-lubing. Older cars had grease fittings on suspension and steering parts that required you to fill using a grease gun.

The 2k2 FSM doesn't mention lubing any parts of the chassis that I can remember.

Sorry, I'm fresh out of smart a$$ answers tonight...

Change your oil every 3k unless synthetic then you can go 5k but thats about it. Don't be misled by cars like BMW that run Mobil 1 and claim 15k. They have an 8 quart capacity so they can go longer. The Max holds right around 4. Like he said always run OEM filters and for Petes sake do it yourself. Do you realy want some high school drop out messin with your ride? I've known these guys to leave off drain plugs, put in wrong oil in the engine- they use a universal hose that also supplies tranny fluid!

Very simple. You should be able to do it if you can change your own oil.
