Problem with steering
Problem with steering
Ok. On my way to houston, the car rode fine over dips in the road...Only problem was the steering wheel couldnt stay straight. Itr was always crooked: turned to the left or right at an angle(about 30degrees). well i was told it was my rack and pinion skipping teeth. well i had it looked at by a guy in houston and he said it was the rack and pinion bushing. well he got it changed. steering still didnt stay straight after 2 alignments. went back. he said it was the second one. wanted more money. it looked fine to me so i declined and got a second opinion. they agreed with me that it wasnt the bushing but that was all they offered. well after getting thaqt bushing done, my steering has been all over the place at high speeds. the suspension isnt stable. It (the driver side wheel) is particularly unstable and the wheel pulls out when it slightly leaves the road after exiting a dip in the road. it's very annoying having a car that wavers and dances and meanders all over the road. I have new control arm bushings, new ball joints, relatively new struts, eibach springs, and fstb and an ST sway bar set. Anyone have similar problems with the pulling wheel? Anyone also had problems with a crooked steering wheel and ever got it fixed? everything was superb until i decided to perfect everything by geting the steering wheel perfectly straight.
suggestions, recommendations. thanks.

My 92se also has a steering problem. I swear the steering wheel was straight when I got the car 4k miles ago. Now (@109k miles)it is turned to the left about 30 degrees. When I accelerate out of a corner I can feel the wheels moving on their own. Usually to the left.
Last week I took the front wheels off my car and manually inspected everything. My ball-joints, tie-rod ends, and struts all seemed ok. After the shop looked at it they said they don't work on "torque steering?". They suggested taking the car to an alignment shop.
The only solution that makes sense is what they told you. The rack maybe missing teeth and causing my problems.
Thanks!

I got a 92 SE which jumps from left to right under hard acceleration when it shifts. I was told it is the control arm bushings. If you call nissan they will tell you that the front? bushing only comes with the control arm. I was told by my local nissan dealer that you can use the bushings from an 88 at least on the SE with A/T. If you want part #'s contact me for a link. It's to long to post here. It is a catalog of oem part #'s for most manufacturers including pictures.
