Engine rpm's drop!

Need any Feedback or Suggestions!
Problem:
My '88 5-speed dies sporadically while driving from 45min to 3+ hours.
The RPM's Drop and it looses power causing me to pull over. (It does not always happen. More often after a rain.) When I flutter the gas pedal it intermittently causes the RPM's to increase and then it falls off. Idles rough and usually dies. Thought it might be water in the tank/lines.
Replaced: Fuel Filter numerous times, Installed new tank as well as an in-line Fuel/Water Separator (Seemed to clear it up for a while.)
Also replaced the Coil, Plugs, Wires, Cap/Rotor and waterproofed the Cap. (Cap was dry on the dying occasions.) Drained the Fuel/H2O separator. No H2O.
Roadside Triage was done with engine off, about 5 min.
The Engine will then start right up and it seems to clear up the problem for a while BUT it returns during highway travel.
Any Help WILL be greatly appreciated.
I don’t want a F.O.R.D. (Found On Road Dead)
Thanks, Chris

Well, Check your maf for water in it. You may have water leaking in some where causing it to foul and mess up like that. You may even hacve a vaccum leak. Check your timing belt too and tensioner. It may be slipping causing you to get the fluttering and then of course it gets back on track. Check the alternator gauge when it dies what are the volts that its showing before it dies. It might end up being that your alternator is dying or your car is in need of a new battery.
