New TSB Released - 2002 Max - Cold Start Rattles

I've uploaded a new TSB for the rattling during a cold start for a 2002 Maxima to my TSB page. There are alot of people with this complaint. Now you've got a fix for it.

http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/

The TSB is number NTB03-060.

(Thanks to the person who supplied it to me.... you know who you are!!!)

Thanks for the post. My max did this to me once at less than 1K miles, and never again. I wonder how many times people are going to take their cars in before the dealerships decide to do the work. My dealership loves the "cannot duplicate/no repair" answer.

It's a TSB. If your car is included in the list they can't make up excuses why you shouldn't get it

Thanks for posting this for everyone. And I always thought it was the timing chain causing this noise.

This is great news It becomes a PIA now because the dealer has to determine which side the noise is coming from and in my case it doesn't always make the noise. Can not duplicate...

Plus some low-dollar tech is tearing the whole front of your engine down...yuck. I'm glad I don't have this problem...at least not that i;ve noticed and I'm not in the VIN range...good luck to those trying to get it done!

I know I think I will stay away from moron Nissan techs working on my car. I had clutch TSB done and now my car is making creaking/clicking sounds when I drive. And dealer can't figure out where this clicking/creaking sound coming from.

It is driving me nuts, this sound so much worse compared to the sound that howling sound that they fixed with TSB.

I think I can live without having this TSB done to my Max...Besides...

-"Sir, your car doesn't fall within the VIN range"
-"But I bought my car in Oct of 2001...IT SHOULD BE COVERED."
-"We'll take a look at it for you...We couldn't find anything wrong with your car..."

OR
-"Sir, your car doesn't fall within the VIN range"
-"But I bought my car in Oct of 2001...IT SHOULD BE COVERED."
-"Ok, well perfomr the TSB under the 3yr/36k warranty"
-"Great!"

Three days later...SQUEAK, RATTLE, CHURNNNN, RATTTTLLLLEE!!!!...
"STUPID FU6KING NISSAN TECHS!"

I can do without it...as long as my timing chain doesn't snap off!

Hey, you guys could try this!

Take it in, it doesn't happen, so they say PROBLEM NOT FOUND. Well, you have it documented that you wanted it fixed. So when your chain snaps or breaks later (if it ever does!?!?), it was documented b4 warranty was up...they must fix!!!

So let me play the Noob role for a sec...

So what if I opt not to have the TSB done, after all, its only a TSB not a recall, what could happen, if anything?
Can Anybody speculate as to why they might need to change the sprockets? besides the obvious, loose...

Daveb, find out the scoop on this TSB (NTB03-060) and inform us on the issue since they all do it.
