im in high school and these guys that have maxima's one 4th gen and one 5th gen always have been sayin been stuff about my car because it is and automatic....... but the thing is an auto being power shifted can be just as fast as a five speed if u know what ur doing....... tonight by chance i pull up next to the guy with a 5th gen 5 speed that has lowering springs and and apex muffler........ i have a y-pipe, intake, and a random tech high flow cat.......... anyways the light turns green and we take off and what do u know i end up seeing him in my rear view... i slow down when in D2 at 5000 rpm's which is about 65 mph because it is in a main strip in my town and there are always police.... he decides to pass me while layin on his horn and have his friend stick his hand out the window and flick me off..... i dont understand!!! sounds like a rice burner pass by to me..... sure enough as he is passing me, blue lights turn on from the other side of the road........ i hit a sharp right going about 50mph and slid through the back of a strip center and went home... the moral of the story is when u flick someone off after racing whethere u win or lose u make yourself look like a B*^%H ......so i dont know what his problem was??

 

Guess what, autos will always be slower than 5spds unless they have LEVEL 10 done to them.

 

yeah but when you have mods that give you "more horse power" it will make a difference....... i agree with you when they are both stock but when the auto has more mods than the stick something is going to give.... maybe he didnt know how to drive but the point i was making is that he was talking crap and was a punk about it after i beat him.

 

let me start out by saying that im not that old, at least in my eyes. i also like to have fun in my car, when appropriate. however, the race that you described is immature and inappropriate. you say that you raced thru the main strip of your town, then skidded thru a strip center while trying to EVADE the police. im sorry if i sound snooty when i say this, but it needs to be said. things like that 1)will get you arrested 2)will get you killed 3)get an innocent person killed. is that what you want? i understand that you are young, and we all like to enjoy our cars and perhaps occasionally show them off by racing someone, however this has to be done responsibly or else there could be some serious ramifications that could cost you your liscence, your car, or maybe even yours or someone elses life. so please be careful. i dont know, am i totally off base here?

 

i dont mean to be offensive but the cop was going the opposite direction and when i took the turn my tires didnt break at all (maybe i used the wrong word) it was 11pm i didnt break 15mph in the parking lot and maintained control the entire time...... this race had the potential to be much more dangerous than it was ..... this was a 1 time opportunity and had to take advantage of it because this guy is the one that claimed if he got the stillen super charger it would have 400hp....... im in high school and recently had a friend wrap his car around a tree im not stupid!

 

Come on please! Enough with the grandpa advice. Maxima drivers are intelligent enough to weigh the consequences with street racing. Do you really think this is new information? It's like telling a smoker that they need to quit because they can get cancer. I'm sure they never thought of that when they started smoking.

 

another high schooler on our hands??? if you have a problem with what i said, then perhaps you have to re-gauge your intelligence as a max driver. because im sure that most max drivers wouldnt race in an area where pedestrians could get injured, then attempt to evade the police to get away. im trying to give sound advice from experience. and by the way im right. there is no doubting that. at least i hope not, since we are all intelligent max drivers, right DOM?

 

Actually I am 23. I have never street raced either. I don't have any interest in it. I just get bored of seeing this grandpa advice on every thread about street racing. How about if you make a thread on street racing so that we don't have to see it every thread? Then if Maxima drivers were wondering about the dangers of street racing, they could go to your thread and be saved from any harm that they might have not known.

Here is what I mean about crappy advice. I posted a thread wondering about how fast cop cars were. I got replies from people saying that i shouldn't try to outrun cops. Who said that I was trying to outrun a cop? I just was wondering how fast they were.

A 5th gen 5 speed with a good driver will easily beat a 5th gen auto with a good driver and the same mods. Think of it this way... best time for 5th gen NA Maxima is 14.3. The best time for a 5th gen auto is 15.3. Even the average times are a second apart. 15.9 vs. 14.9. But they key is.... good driver. Some 5 speed drivers are not good drivers, but that's less likely. It is more likely that an auto driver is not as skilled. This is my experience in 18 years of driving.
