What I had in mind after moving the filter down/in is setting up a second, larger diamter elbow to fit the base of the filter, aiming forward, with an angled opening. Can we say . . ram air??

i don't recommend putting the filter down there. when i put mine down there somehow the filter got soaking wet when it rained (and i wasn't even driving it!)

Yeah . . had a problem like that w/an Isuzu Rodeo we had. Ended up building a ram air scoop, using the fog light socket as the mouth of it. At the place where the bend uP took place, I drilled a series of very small holes on the long radius of the curve (back of curve). On rainy days, the air would continue up the the pipe, but the water would become trapped at the bend, and ooze out the tiny holes in the long radius. Constant monitoring confirmed that the K&N filter remained dry as a bone.

i would build an air box using sheet metal or something and put it over that hole. that is what i'm planning on doing with mine (somewhat). i also have the e36 conversion so i'm to kind of do a ram thing behind the headlight. i will cover the rear of the headlight with the sheet metal making a sort of scoop and also having the hole in the bottom breath too. that way i can try to keep temps down as good as i can.

That sounds like a greaT idea! Let me know how it comes along.

Just had a Suspension Techniques sway bar <front> put on. It weighs *SEVERAL* times more than the original, and there is quite a difference in uneven pavement handling and cornering. I am going to go back in the morning and see about installing the matching rear sway.
