2nd try: Help, tranny died?

Umm, sorry, see to have too many blank postings. Kept getting page not found error late last night. Let me try again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi folks,

Stock '94 Maxima SE, automatic, 84k miles. Been pretty good so far.

Yesterday, tried to start from a taffic signal; car lurched forward and then stopped. Now it won't move in any of the gears; with the engine running putting it in park is difficult and makes a loud sound. All the other gears also make this grinding sound and in drive the engine and speedometer rev up without me touching the accelerator. With the engine off, the car won't stay in park, it rolls with the slope. Tried again a few hours later when showing to mechanically inclined friend. Few hours after that there seemeds to be a large amount of clear light oil leaking under car. Did I worsen something by tring to move the car the second time?

My question is has the transmission died? Have I broken an axle? Any ideas? And any idea on what this will cost me?

As an fyi, I had the front pipe and the driver side CV boot changed (it was torn) last week. Could that work have caused this problem (hurried, newbie mechanic?)

thanks in advance,

human

So it turned out that the driver side axle popped out of the tranny and that was trans fluid leaking. The mechanic who did the original work of changing my CV boot reinserted it and it appears to be fine now. No idea why it happened.

My original thread, which was blank initially, got responded and I posted these details there too. No idea if we should keep both going or just one. Sorry for the confusio though.
