Aftermarket HID illegal?

My friend said aftermarket HID are now illegal to sell, as of this week. I don't know where he got his info from. He also said McCulloch has annouced they will stop selling aftermarket HID and only offer replacement bulbs.

Supposedly, the law says bulbs must use filaments. I'm wondering how they'll enforce it with new luxury cars w/standard HID.

My friend isn't one to BS, so I believe him 75%. Has anybody else heard of something like this? Please keep the OT/BS/flaming out.

I think in 2 month most HID retailers will start to push them out Cheap!because HID will not be legal.
The only HID value won't go down, from what I know is CATZ.

Awesome...glad the search function works with 3 characters and the post is in the 5th gen forum that I hardly visit.

I'm keeping my eyes out for a set. Illegal or not, this's a safety issue that I believe all cars should have, provided they are aimed (and beam pattern) are corrected.

From what I've seen it looks like they are trying to get rid of the "Off-Road" type HID kits that people install but still use on the street. Like the Civic with bright blue lights aimed too high or the 4x4 truck that's lifted and with HIDs so it blinds every car it comes up behind... The easiest way to do that was to probably prohibit all aftermarket kits.

Cars can still have HIDs from the factory.

They're banning the sale of aftermarket HID retrofit kits. Cars that came with them stock, and cars to be sold are not affected by this.

I don't think that you will have any problems since your car will look like a 2k2. Just don't buy blue capsules. Stick with OEM if you can.
I don't wanna get rid of my HID Kit.

Using retrofit HID kits have always been illegal, since I don't think any of them are DOT/ SAE approved. What this new law does is prohibit the sale of those kits.

No one ever said that the petition will un-ban the sale of HID for sure. It's just an attempt.
