Tuner Style Lugnut Recall
Tuner Style Lugnut Recall
Just FYI, as most of us have wheels that require the tuner style lugs:
Many manufacturers of lug nuts are voluntarily recalling their "socket style" lugs. Having a bit hole in the top of the nut to receive the socket leaves very little metal for structural stability of the nut. The result is that the socket style lugs may crack (often you won't notice the crack) when they are torqued. The replacement lugs are "spline-drive" with splines on the outside of the lug instead of a socket hole on the inside. I learned of this recall when I picked up my new Motegi wheels yesterday, and Motegi gave me spline-drive lugs. I thought, "what the hell are these?!"
Apparently, a few guys were unaware that their lugs were cracked, and lost a wheel at speed. Probably won't happen to you, buy hey, thought I'd pass it along. I love you guys, man.
Pics explaining the difference in the two lug types can be found at:
