Battery Terminal + Amp Wiring = Pain in the Butt!!

Ok, WTF!!

I've got a 2003 Maxima SE and I just looked under the hood at the battery. To my surprise it has this really gorky looking + battery terminal. It appears to have a normal auto battery terminal clamp on it, but it seems something else is piggy backed to it with a fuse and two wires - looks like some OEM distribution block with one fused output and one normal output. I'm guessing one goes to the alternator, but no clue where the other goes.. *shrug*

Any idea how to install some heavy gauge wiring for an amp using custom terminals and still maintain this OEM battery hookup??

FYI, this is what I'm hoping to install, since it's awesome, platinum, and has a built-in fuse, what more could you ask for... It sits right on top of the terminal post.

Thanks,
Kevin

Cleanest and easiest solution is to buy a Optima top AND side post battery.

Hide the FUGLY stockers on the back/side terminals and floss the RF terminators on top.

Yeah well that requires some money to blow on a new battery, as much as I would like to go that route... *sigh*

Trust me...I KNOW!

I sent the terminators back and said F-it, since I'm too much of a cheap a$$ to throw away a perfectly good battery. As soon as that bish gives me trouble...Optima here I come.

BTW, most likely those RF terminators won't fit the POSITIVE terminal withOUT some help.

I know you have your heart set on something like looks really cool like the RF thingy (I saw your other post about trying to help identify it, but wasn't really sure what you were specifically talking about).

I did something like this. It doesn't look fancy, but it gets the job done and looks clean.

Thanks Tony. That does look clean, but are you using ring terminals?

I would hate to run my high-current setup with some dinky ring terminals... How many watts are you pushing to your stereo right now?

By the time I'm done, I will be pushing over 1KW RMS, so...

Whether or not my alternator can handle that is a different story.. mouahaha..

And you wont spring for an Optima or Odyssey battery...

Are you going to skimp on the caps too?

I used soldered ring terminals where I just melted a bunch of solder into the hollow end and then shoved the bared-end of the cable into it.

Watts? Hmmm... Phoenix Gold rates their ZX amps very conservatively, but if I remember correctly, the maximum amount of peak power I'd ever be pushing under just the right conditions would be around 750 watts. However, with my gains turned down and the fact I hardly ever max out the volume, I'd be lucky to see even a third of that on any regular sort of basis.
