how to remove hard water spots on hood
how to remove hard water spots on hood
i got 4 lines of hard water marks on my hood, where the water would squirt out out of those windshield washer things. i try to use filtered water when refilling the resevoir but i guess some calcium remains. i've tried using car soap when cleaning it and even scratching it with my nails, still no use. is my only option claybar-ing it? thanks in advance.

I second what Maximumspeed said. A claybar can help, but if they're baked on, you may need to go to a paint cleaner/polish. Remember to always start with the least aggressive product, and work up from there. The step 1 cleaners from Meguiars or Mothers 3 step systems would probably take care of it. If not, try a swirl mark remover (like Megs #9). If those don't do it, then something like Megs DACP (Dual Action Cleaner Polish), which is more aggressive than #9. I seriously doubt you'd need to compound, so I'd stay away from those. And keep in mind that most glazes won't remove blemishes, but rather hide them. Read the bottle, because some manufacturers interchange the terms "glaze" and "polish".
After they are removed, apply a good wax. Several light coats would be best to prevent them from coming back (if you use a one step/cleaner wax, they usually won't layer because the cleaners remove the previous layer of wax).
I use RainX washer fluid (rejuvenates my RainX application supposedly), and haven't had spots appear that wouldn't wash off. Or if you're hell bent on using water, try store bought distilled or something.

hmm, thanks for the replies guys. i was hesitant to buy that rainx washer fluid because i don't know how well they work or if it'll hurt the paint. i'll give that stuff a try.
