Hardwiring your Radar Detector

The link on the faq doesnt work anymore...anyone has a write up instruction?

That's pretty cool. Did you mount yours the same? I've read that mounting a radar detector that high is bad if you're pointing it through that tint band on the top of the windshield. Cuts down on the detectors effectiveness.

I'm gonna hardwire my new V1 once it gets here (bought it from PCGuRu2K; thanks again bro)

I have had no problem with my Bel 980 mounted above my rear view mirror, still does its job very well....

Wow, That seems like a lot of work just to hard wire your radar detector.
I have a 2002 max and I have had mine hard wired for over a year and a half. It is very easy to just remove the courtesy light/ sunglass fixture, take a hot lead from the hot side of the light switch and the other to ground and run them to your radar detector and re-install the assembly. The radar detector will no turn off when you turn off your car but it will turn off aprox 10 to 20 minutes after you close the last door. It draws so little power it would not make any difference if it was on all the time anyway. I hooked mine up this way the second day I had the car and it has worked fine ever since.

I like it just below the mirror a bit better so the display is easier to read.
