alarm just goes off? (don't read this)
This morning, 6am, with the maxima parked in the garage the alarm goes off as if someone pressed the panic button on the keyless fob. I'm trying to like this car... but it seems hell bent on convincing me otherwise. I can just hear the dealer saying "we don't find anything wrong with the alarm..."
(Whine warning--don't read any further if you are a maxima fan)
So far at 4,400 miles:
-severe hood shudder at 70 MPH+
-driver window reverses after auto-up (was fixed for 10 days, now "broke" again)
-blown MAF
-reprogram ECU
-coolant smell inside just after cold starting
-constantly creaking dashboard when a/c is running (plastic thermal contraction noise)
-false alarm at 6am (someone's in the garage!)
-lame a/c
I guess now I am waiting for paint chips and rotor warp. I've had only VW/Audi since 1984 and never experienced anything like what the maxima is putting me through. At least the maxima was cheap. Someone posted something like: "there are good maxima and then there are others... it's the luck of the draw." Hell of a way to run a car business I'd say. How was it that Nissan was bought by Renault? Fiat refused to make an offer.
VQ35 is an excellent motor (MAF excepted) in a wholly average, poorly executed platform. Sort of a Japanese version of the Thunderbird with the turbo SVO motor.
(I told you not to read this.)

I had the problem with my alarm going off in my garage.
It was because I left the map light on!!! I guess when the battery got low, it set off the voltage sensor!
Easy fix if this is your problem...

Do they not have the "Lemon Law" in your state? If so then there may be a way for you to force Nissan to buy your POS back. As for VW/Audi not having these problems, I say horsecrap. All car manufactures have lemons, it's just something they can't avoid. Besides most of the problems I see about on the org with exception to the paint chip problem and the ones your describing are caused by the individual by putting various performance parts on and having the car react in a negative way. Anyway it seems your case is very unique. I hope you get these problems resolved and good luck if you persue the "Lemon Law".

If you look at Consumer Report's reliability rating, the Maxima is rated the highest among "Family Cars", beating out the 23 others. Some of the other cars in the category were (in relative order) Outback, Altima, Camry, Passat, Grand Prix, Intrepid, Galant, S40/V40, and at the bottom is the Saturn L-Series.
Here's a link to it, but you have to be a subscriber for it to work:

Was the dealer at least helpful with your problems?
