I don't think its possible to drop in a 3.5 into our engine bay.

it is possible... everything in life is possible.

do not even think of it.
unless you are looking for fun and lots of trouble

i don't think anybody knows the answer to that question on here. however, i'm sure that you could get custom mounts made, if anything. 90% of the time with import swaps i've encountered, you have to go that route anyways. due to the space limitations on the 4th gen, i'm sure you'll need them anyways...

The general consensus is it would be much more cost effective to do a turbo or supercharger. Check here and here for more information.

thats actually who i would ask to do this install haha, the reason i am looking also to do the whole swap is not just the power put the long range possibilites with the engine. it would have a lot less miles on it and then i could supercharge a 3.5 instead of a 3.0, the potential is just greater with taht motor. i am guessing around 5k for parts and labor?

6spd will work I should have mine done this weekend just need to install driveshafts and pedal. the down falls are removing stock 4th gen mount and you need to have the engine out to make it easier. 3.5 bottomend bolts in to stock mounts.

There really should be a FAQ on what parts are interchangeable between the 3.0 and 3.5 and what will mount to what. There always seems to be a lot of questions on this subject.

IF YOU CAN FIT A V8 INA VEGA AND PINTO YOU CAN FIT A 3.5 INTO A 3.0 ENGINE BAY

LOL sorry for the caps it was supposed to be sorta funny.
i think its very possible, my interest however is putting the V8 VQ into my older 90 maxima. Now that would be some serious shht. As far as engibe mounts go what u would need is to take the 3.5 engine mounts and mount them in place of the 3.0 mounts. Of course i make it sound easy but anyone looking to do this sort of thing isnt looking for an easy job.

Would the 3.5 work with the 4th gens Ecu and wiring, or would all that have to be pulled and changed out too?

A lot of the sensors are different, not to mention the variable intake and valve timing programs. You would have to swap harnesses and ECU's

Does anyone know if the 3.5 would mount the same as the 3.0? I mean, would the mounts line up the same way? I'm assuming everyone thinks it cant. If it could, what would be so difficult about this swap?

mounts are the same for the motor I know I have one sitting here already fit up and waiting for install but the 6spd needs the mount welded in and stock mount removed.

I had conteplated doing this before but it seems like it will be too much of a hassle seeing that after you do the swap you will probably put a turbo or SC in it. Why not just use the time and money involved and get a and turn the boost up.

Probably due to the fact that this motor in a 4th Gen., witch is like 600 pounds lighter then a 5th gen would kill a 5th gen.

From what I've read and heard, use the block mount from a 4th gen and mount it to the 3.5

What I have always wondered is whether the heads on the 3.5 will fit on that of the 3.0 or the other way aroung. At least this might reduce the hassle.

You guys are probably right

You know, sometimes you come into that thin red line between hobby and economic feasibility. I really wish that my 4th gen comes with 6 spd, or 5 spd...but what I have is an auto.

For me, after thinking it over and over again, putting body kits and Cefiro lamps are cool....but the $$$ outweigh the benefits of doing such mods. The same thing apply to 4th gen with 6 spd tranny. It will cost a lot of $$$ (4 grand all said and done, perhaps?) but then again, you could save up your money, wait for 3-4 years and get a nice used G35 Coupe (well, they cost more, but hopefully you get the idea).

I would really like to have 6 spd in my 4th gen....hell, even the 3.5 with 6 spd into 4th gen for that matter, but then I probably have to apply for special insurance to cover my invested $$$ if something happens to my car.

Ardika,
Things are always expensive when there first new....look at the 5 speed conversion when that was new to the org...a year or so later i was able to get my hands on all the parts for 1000 dollars, and sell my auto for 400 so i basicly payed only 600 bucks...and what its given me, its well worth that and more... so like i was saying, after time pass's things become from more realistic.

Oh yeah one more question...putting a 6 speed tranny on the 3.0 motor, what would be the advantage of this?

True, but I am having a hard time to convince myself that Stillen body kit, which in my opinion is the best kit out there (subtle), is worth the price since you will have to drive to be more careful (lower ground clearance, paint matching, etc.). Again, this is just my opinion, though. I love seeing a well done body kits on any car.

I would think that the advantage is presumably better design (compared to 5-spd tranny), based on the "newer" design of the 6 spd (reliability) and better gear ratio on NA cars. If you are supercharged/turbo, perhaps high gearing is fine, but NA cars....sometimes we need that "extra" gear.

ok, people say just crank up the boost a lil, now imagine that i do this swap and install a s/c or turbo later, then crank up the boost a little bit. the in the long run, the 3.5 swap will yeild greater power and greater modding ability.
ahh yes, someone stated that they were a 3.0 auto, i know the feeling iam one as well.
alos a key thing to remember is that i will be putting in a new engine and tranny, this swap will make my car last another 7yrs longer too, s/c the car and you still got the same wear that was on the engine

U have to understand that the 3.5 motor does have an advantage over the 3.0 in an all motor setting... but in the long run with the boost....its pointless cuz the motors share the same block. And I believe if I remember right the stock blocks can handle like 450 HP. So just because u have the more aggressive motor in there doesn't mean it will out perform the 3.0 with boost...just means u will have to boost less to get the same power out puts the 3.0 gives...
