Check the compression. VQ's are very well ballanced and should not give you any problems as long as you give it enough fuel, and monitor your gauges. I am about to SC my 4th gen at about 85,000, I was originally going to wait until around 100,000 miles. Basically the only thing that I am going to do is first get a compression test, switch to mobil one synthetic, get a walbro fuel pump, FPR, SAFC so that I am sure that my engine is getting all the fuel it needs, and finally gauges so I can monitor everything.

I can't remember who it was that tore down their VQ after 85,000 miles of boosting and spray but it still had the cross hatch marks! These engines are great, treat them right and they will last you forever.

I have ~83,000 miles on my '95 SE, about 12,000 miles with the supercharger, with no problems. I have around 60,000 miles on the supercharger (bought it used), about half with a smaller pulley, and it too has been good to me. I am not running synthetic, NOR do I plan to. I run the cheap stuff, but have starting using Castrol Syntec Blend. Supercharging demands that you change your oil at least every 5,000 miles. So far, with 12,000 miles at almost 10psi, my engine has been perfect. God bless those little fellas at Nissan who brought about the VQ engine back in mid '94.

you can buy the compression gauge and do it yourself. or have a mechanic does it for you.

refer to Hayne's repair manual for more info and how-to.

well lets see, I seen two motors one at 135K boosting 8PSI, then I see another who just got supercharged @ over 100K, and a third max who went thru nitrous and now pushing 10PSI from a Turbo and they are both running strong and I just bought a 95 max with 135K and thats running strong about to add some bolt ons

100k miles on an SE, 10psi of boost, running one of the smallest pullies available (3.00")

Been on for 12k miles, 0 problems. For the most part, the VQ is a helluva strong engine.
