Help! Crank oil seal removal...Anyone

I have a 98 SE with a new UDP and I can't remove the oil seal from the engine. Do I need a special tool? I'm afraid to nick the surface using screwdrivers and plyers.

You can remove the current one with a flathead screwdriver...just be careful. I've done it several times with no problems.

Mine was also stuck in there pretty good, but with some prying with a screwdriver I was able to get it out. Just be careful.

Like he said up there get up close to the seal and use a screw driver and if your that nervous you can even use a 3/8 extension which does not have a sharp side like a flat head, thats what I used on a tranny seal last night

Thank you all! I will attempt to pry it off with all of your suggestions. I will post when I complete it. Hopefully by tomorrow night.

i I did it!!!! I used a combination of a flat head screwdriver, long nose plyers and my plastic tire iron for my mountain bike! I ended up ripping it to pieces before it came out! Thanks '.org'!!!
