Anyone know how to repair rear defrost...??

when i bought my 92 se the tint on it was sooo bad so i got it peeled off and got new tint on it. Before the shop did it they warn me that the tint on it was too old and when they pull it the defrost stripes will peel off with the old tint. My question is.....Is there any way of repairing besides getting new glass. Having no defrost really suck.

Hrmm, that depends on the patience/skill of the tinter. My rear windo had bubbles all over the damn thing. You may think it's easier to strip a tint that has bubbles but it ends up breaking off in segments. where only patches are left.

The guy did warn me that I may lose a line in the defroster here or there, but he said he'd try his best. I got it back with only 1 line sacrificed under his blade. I was impressed, although I better have been for 4 doors and a back window strip/retint for 225$.

But as far as the defroster goes, theres no real way, unless your pretty damn good at soldering and can pull it off consmetically. I'm lucky enough to live in cali, where I don't even use mine. Is the defroster worth a new rear window?

Oh, I got all 4 doors including wing windows as well as the back. The tint on all of them were horrible.

I'd ask a glass shop, but I would think the window would have to be replaced. I imagine those defroster line repair kits aren't the same stuff as the defroster elements and are probably just electrically conductive paint of some kind.

I don't know if they're still available but when I started selling parts 10 yrs ago we stocked a complete rear defogger kit that had the lines rather than a blower.
You applied the lines like a vinyl sticker but can't remember more than that. Got out of retail 4yrs ago. now I deal with shops who know even less!

i talked to a tint guy (i lost my rear defrost in my car repairing process) and he said the only way he new to "repair" the lines was 2 buy this conductive liquid that was applied kinda like nail polish....he said he had never bought it tho b/c at $70 for a little bottle that might do 1 mindow it just wasnt worth it

although automar's post sounds correct, but b/c of space itd prolly b really hard to get sumthin like that to fix correctly w/o popping off the back window (which is prolly like $100 or so 2 get put back in)

in other words....either fork out or get used 2 not havin it ....besides, w/ bass in my car, the rear view mirrow has become worthless

The little bottle is like a $1.99 but is only useful if te majority of the line is still left
