Tokico blues/Illuminas Questions - Please advise

Yeah, I did search, etc.

- Going to get Tokico blues...where should I purchase and cost?

- When I go to H&R's, can the blues handle the 1" drop?

- I saw in 'Search' that Tokicos' Illuminas will be out in November...can I assume they
are con$iderably more expensive?

Lingering question I've had about Tokicos... especially the Illumina

How do they perform with stock springs? Someone mentioned that for stock springs (4th gen anyway), it's best to set them to their highest setting, because the suspension travel is greater than a car with lowering springs... do Illuminas give you plenty of tweaking room with stock suspension travel, or do you have to nail them to max. setting all the time to get decent performance?

BTW, I assume the Tok blues provided you more stability?

Also, how do you like the Kumho tires? They about an inch wider that the Potenzas? Any close up pics, I'm curious to see how well they fit the stock wheels with a 235 width. Thanks ...'Maybe

i do not think they will be that much moer expensive. look at other prices for illuminas plus you get what you pay for. if you lower your car you should get illuminas. other non adjustable shocks are made to go with OEM springs.

The Illuminas will more than likely be in the $450.00 + range. From talking to many people on different platforms, the blue is a 2 on the Illumina 1-5 adjustment scale. My money is on hold and i am just waiting on the release.

I'm running the Illuminas in my 4th gen with H&R springs. The ride is nothing short of awsome. They blow away the Blues or any KYB shock, including the AGX's. As far as settings and ride goes, it's sort of like this.

1 - Softer then stock, feels like an old caddy on the road.

2 - Nice soft yet controlled smooth ride.

3 - Firm sporty feel, yet still smooth.

4 - Firm ride.

5 - OK It's time to get into the twisties at high speeds.

They are totally worth the money. Tokico definately makes a superior product. They have just released a spring and strut package for the 4th gen Maxima. The complete package lowers the car about 1.5 inches and comes with either the Blues or Illuminas. (priced accordingly)

I hope they release the Illuminas for you 5th genners soon, because your going to love the ride comfort and handling. These struts definately perform and are worth every penny.

So, the new Illuminas, which are supposed to be out in Nov/03 will be a straight bolt on, no modifiacation needed as is the case for guys using existing Illuminas for the 5th gen cars, correct?

Also, from what I'm hearing, if I plan to lower car with say H&R's, I should really not use a Tokico blue strut as this is meant for stock springs/height, etc. Sound correct?

Yep, the Illuminas will be a direct bolt on.

The Blue's or GR2's work fine with H&R's or any of the other springs. It is all up to what you want. Almost all the dropped 5th gens on here are running either the Blue or GR2. With the Illumina, you gain adjustability along with increased compression and rebound.

They were much more stable than the stock struts with maxspeeds. The bounce of the stock struts is gone. The ride is pretty firm, but controlled. Here are some pics of the Kumhos.

Wee homepage for a few more pics. Hope they help.
