Could the ALMIGHTY FAQ be wrong???

So yeah my KS is ****ed and I replaced it with a resistor. Before that however I just unplugged it and checked the ECU for codes, getting 0304. So I reset the ECU with the resistor plugged in and get 0505. I repeat the steps again except this time I reset the ECU the way it's said in the manual, turn screw clockwise, turn on the car and turn the screw counterclockwise. I keep getting the 0304 code after every reset. Does this mean that the way in the FAQ just clears the code even if the problem is still there? And the way in the manual just clears the CEL light???

I could be wrong but I believe the way the FAQ was trying to convey was that if you receive an error code, you address it. Fix the problem. -THEN- reset it, or it will still be displayed. I could be wrong though.

the way you reset the ecu is wrong. you suppose to turn on the car, turn the screw clockwise, wait for 2 seconds, turn the screw counterclockwise and then IMMEDIATELY REPEAT the step one more time.

FUNMAX you're a new guy so I won't tell you to get your **** straight before you open that hole of yours. When you reset the ECU the car isn't supposed to be on when using the FAQ method, it's supposed to be to the on posistion and not RUNNING MOTOR ON. Please go read your car's manual before you say some other stupid ****...

When you talk about "the manual" are you referring to the Factory Service Manual? I don't have the FSM so can't say, but I've never read about this "other" way of clearing codes/clearing the light.

The check engine sticky (not the FAQ) agrees with what you will read in Haynes. I think you're simply not clearing the code correctly in the first place with this "manual" procedure you're talking about.

Funmax has been around almost a year now so it's not very becoming of you to be flaming him as a newbie and someone who knows nothing when:
a) he's only offering an opinion
b) there's a 99.9% chance he's right
c) It's you that should be thinking before "opening that hole of yours". If there really was this dual way of clearing codes/lights/whatever, someone would have found it by now.

IBTL (here's hoping)

It's in the MANUAL, the thick book that came in this black folder that is located in your GLOVE BOX...

Well the screw is turned all the way counterclockwise when you drive. To check the code you turn it clockwise, and counterclockwise again. The codes will now flash. Now turn the screw clockwise, turn on the car(meaning car is running for those that don't know what it means). As you see the car is idling kinda rough, now turn the screw counterclockwise, the car idles fine and the CEL is cleared...

and apparently the method you're using from there isn't workiing.. so since you asked for help, how about you try the offered help instead of jumping down people's throats and generally being an as..

I never said it doesn't work. All I said is that is the method mentioned in the MANUAL. It's the same as the one mentioned in the FAQ except that this one only clears the CEL and codes when the codes are fixed. FUNMAX, I have no hard feelings for him except, I said this was another way to clear the code BESIDES the one in the FAQ. He then said I was wrong and continued to write the method in the FAQ which was pointless...

Your owner's manual tells you how to check the CEL does it? Mine sure doesn't. It tells me to see a Nissan dealer. Nobody I know has an owner's manual which outlines that procecure. I'll take it back though if you can scan the page and post it up here. Either way, the method sounds like it's wrong.

I reset my ECU via the FAQ method and had no problems so I dont know whats up with your car. Anyways, that little screw is a PITA so I just got an OBD-II scanner for my Palm OS PDA that can do it for me through the diag port.

I said the method in the FAQ works but also seems to clear the code, for a period of time, even if the problem wasn't fixed. I didn't even know about the method in the MANUAL untill a few weeks ago when I was waiting in my car for someone. I've used the FAQ method for over a year but it started ****ing me off cause the screwdriver would slip out and I had to start over...

Kind of, well in the FAQ it says to do that to clear the light when in actuality it clears the codes. The method I mentioned actually clears the light but the code is still there if you check for the codes. Same thing, If anyone bothered to look in their manual and found it say so. If not I'm gonna need someone to host the scan for me...

WTF, they way in hte sticky clears out all codes - which is a good thing so if hte problem comes back the light will turn on. and u are saying urz clears the light but not hte code in the ecu? seems pointless to me. i would use the way hte nissan FSM and Haynes manual said to and not ur way that you claim to have come from the manual that came with the car.

KEVLO everything you said in your post I already said before. The way in the stick clears the codes even if they weren't fixed, but only for a short time. Eventually they will come back. The way I said ONLY CLEARS THE LIGHT, as in it won't blink but if you check the codes they are still stored. And how is it pointless? If the problem is fixed the codes will be gone. It's easier this way and I just wanted people to know that there is an alternative...

I just want to say that I'm sorry cause the way I mentioned isn't from the MANUAL but from a CHILTON'S manual. Again sorry for the misunderstanding...
