Mounting the ECU....PITA, Help.

Spent the last hour and a half trying to put my ECU back. It's been at least 6 months since I removed it so I can't remeber exactly how it looked when I took it out. I know how the mounting bracket is supposed to go, but the damn bundled wires are in the way. There must be some certin way the wires are supposed set in there for it to fit, but I can't figure it out. I don't see how in the *** it is supposed to fit in there!!! I am sick of my ECU sitting on my floor board.

does this help?
Tools needed: small socket like screwdriver about 4-5" long that uses small <1" bits for screw points, 10mm deepsocket.

1 Then remove the plastic on both sides behing the stereo. On the passenger side, unbolt the wiring harness, pull it out of the way.

2 There are 4 screws (phillips) 2 on rear, 2 on front 1 at each corner. You have to feel for them. then slide the screwdriver in and ratchet it to loosen the screws out.

3 Then the unit just slides out. REMEMBER THE ORIENTATION OF THE ECU AND WHICH DIRECTION IT FACES.. (Lettering up)

4 Then using the 10mm socket driver, remove the harness from the ECU. This is a long screw, so it might take some time.

5. Once the bolt is all the way out, gently pry the connector FROM the ecu... and then you can swap ECUs.

got that from maximadriver

thanks, but that's not what I am looking for.

I am trying to to put the ECU and the mounting frame that holds the ECU back into the original spot. I just need to know how to postition the ECU wires so it will all fit. It is obvious that everything has to be in a certin place for it to fit, I just can't figure it out.

The main harness decends from the upper passenger side area closest to the firewall. From there it follows along the firewall until it wraps towards the angled piece on the upper ecu bracket that has 2 clip on areas and then toward the center console and behind the head unit area. After that it turns back towards the passenger area and around to the socketed side of the ecu. I cut all of those black harness clips that connect to the bracket cause they are such a bicth and also took some metal snips and cut every tab off the bracket that they plugged into. I also didn't bother putting back the 2 10mm bolts back as the bracket clip holds it just fine. Nissan sure wanted to make it difficult to pull an ecu without taking out the dash. I am not sure how you guys have the ecu just sitting in there as the side panels connect to this bracket. That must look pretty ghetto with all that exposed.

My bolt broke off so I had to zip tie the harness tight. I just thought I would answer that one before I was asked. If you need anything else just hit me back. -Wayne
