Some hope for 98+ ECU after all!!!

I contacted technosquare via e-mail a week ago. I got a response from Danny. Here's the text:

We have just recently downloaded the data for 99-01 maxima. We have not done any type of testing on it yet. But we are expecting similar results as the 02+ Maximas.

Danny.

Do you re-program ECUs for 1999 Maximas equipped with NVIS? If so, are the performance gains on par with those to be found for earlier model years? I am told there has been a bit of problem gaining resources for research and development along with guaging demand for the product, which should suit 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 Maximas. If you need assistance in these areas, please contact me.

Good nbews? I think so! Keep at them, asking questions, etc., and we may see results in a couple months! I believe they're based out of California, so anyone in the near are who can do without their Cali-spec, or NVIS(theft-deterrent) system equipped Max can be a HUGE help (and may get a deal!) thoughts, anyone?

what about the later years, like 97? I would be interested also if they would be able to produce something from my car.

you can put a 95-96 ecu into your 97, and iirc, 98's. i'm currently running a 96 ecu in my 97 with no problems whatsoever.

Note that this is good news for people with 99.5-2001 ECU's only (although it is a positive sign for everyone else too). These are *not* the same ECU's as 97-99. The 1999 model year was split with some of the earlier cars carrying the 97/98 ECU, and the later cars containing the 99.5-2001 ECU. Those later 99's generally have NVIS (chipped ignition key) and are usually Cali-spec (ie, they have the '00/01 style exhaust setup). In general, if you have a SE-Limited '99, it is a good bet that you fall into this category.

Not all 97's will work with a 96 ECU without a check engine light. Some do, some don't. It seems to depend on when your particular 97 was manufactured, although there have been a few exceptions to that. This point has not been totally clairified. In any case, you *can* run one, you just might get a check engine light.

Thanks for clarifying. You guys will definitely want to contact technosquare at their e-mail address about other applications, but the distinctly different 99.5-01 Max ECU seems to be what they're working on (In my opinion, one of the most challenging Max ECUs to work on) Beyond that if you're interested in the 99.5-2001 application, please contact them (contact@technosquareinc.com)and let them know, including the functionalities you'd like to see (speed limiter removed, inreased fuel cutoff, etc., things which I did not ask about). Be sure to inform them if you can help, of course, in any way. Obviously this is something we'd all like to see come to market as soon as possible.

It can work but since it wasn't designed with the OBD2 in mind we (97 & 98) lose at least 2hp and 2-5tq over the correct design. That's why Nabil's and Cheston's original gains were weird years ago.
