Can I cut out the plastic door grills and...

If the components I ordered are too deep, is it possible to cut the plastic door panel (grill) and mount the speaker directly on the plastic door trim? I know it can be done, I'm just asking to see if it will generate waaaay too much vibration between the door trim, and the metal door. I plan on using a foam baffle from Crutchfield to "contain" the sound.

Has anyone done this on a 5th gen? Does is sound ok?...

Thanks,
G

i think it's more of a support issue. would the plastic be able to support the speaker? some of those magnets can get heavy and over time the plastic might crack under the stress. my $.02

You shouldn't have any depth issues with your new component set fitting behind the door panel grille. I just installed a JL Audio component set and mounted the 6.5" woofers on 3/4" MDF mounting rings, and there is no issues at all. You should be just fine.

I made them. When you get your component set, most likely, you'll get a template with the diameter of the hole you would need to cut out when mounting the woofer into a location. What you do is, cut out the hole for the diameter of the new woofer in a sheet of MDF. Then take the factory speakers and center the magnet into the new 6" hole you just cut out. Trace an outline of the factory speaker which has 3 rounded areas in which the woofer screws to the door frame. Simply cut out the new ring, get some longer self-drilling metal screws from Lowe's or HD and you're golden. I'll post a pic of one of the ones I made for my install from over the weekend.

Scheduled delivery is Friday the 5th. I may not get a chance to install this weekend due to weather... or I may just wait for my amp.

Haha sucka... I was kidding!

No really.. I bought them and they'll be here tomorrow. Are you also buying the rears? According to ABS you should be able to run them off the stock Bose amp up front. However, and amp is REALLY needed to drive these carbons (from what I hear)

I have the crappy Bose setup, so I may just wait and install with an aftermarket amp. Would you believe that the Sentra's NON-BOSE setup sounds WAAAAY BETTER than my Bose! Even the Bass is louder & cleaner!

Huh?... I paid $200 + $45??? Did you get the CF ones? Which model# did you order? The CF ones come with silk-dome tweeter.

I just popped the box open. The Carbons look nice. The coaxials came in a small box... but I think I'll keep them. Some people say they work great. If need be I can always replace in the future Besides they're the only coaxials that CDT makes (except for the Braxials)

Now I need Foam baffles from Crutchfield for all 4 speakers & the 8" deck sub!

Is it better to take out the stock baffles? I kept mine in and added a ring adaptor on top of that. Maybe that's why I had fitment issues.

To protect the speakers from outside moisture & it also helps with the acoustics.

Just a quick word to the wise, if you put MDF in the door, you had better coat it with something. MDF does not mix with water. It will expand to over double its thickness. I have been installing for 12 years, and I have taken out some nasty stuff from people not putting a little fiberglass resin on the MDF. I have seen it warp the speaker frame over 1/2 an inch. I would actually recommend using plywood over MDF in the door if you cannot fiberglass the MDF
