I just went for a ride after installing my filter. HOLY COW that's louder than I thought!!

I feel like I lost power in 1st gear....like a stock Max would blow me off the line....Did I do something wrong? Reassure me that I want this thing on my car!!

Thanks.

Where is the air filter positioned? Is it underhood or in the fender well?

It's amazing how much noise there is under the hood now that you removed the factory airbox. After i replaced my airbox, i didn't really lose low end power. It is still there and yep, I can still chirp'em pretty good. I'm also not using the JWT or Stillen set-up. I'm using one of those cones that can basically be seen through (MaxSpeed a/f?). It's a cone filter, then there is a inverted cone in the middle (top). I didn't reset the ECU, they can adjust themselves. Are you using the Plane Racing CAI?

Disadvantage to CAI???

Well; as with most if not all "cone type" or CAI intakes, you will lose some low end torque to gain high end torque...
If you got some big monster size cone(i.e. JWT or Stillen), then I can guess you'll lose some torque.

The relationship to how much vacuum your pistons pull vs. the intake diameters will determine your effective air velocity. Air velocity is pretty much the most important thing to make your engine breath.

I think I jumped the gun a little...

I drove it to work today and roared away from every light and stop sign. I think you were right, the settings needed to adjust themselves. I read late last night that would be the case.

CHECK OUT MY PAGE FOR INSTALL AND PICTURES.

Thanks!

I looked at your website and I have a few questions:

- How hard was the rewire on the foglights?
- Did you also rewire your corner lenses (not the bumper lenses)? If so what bulbs did you use, stock or aftermarket?
- Just so you know, you don't have a Cold Air intake. A cold air intake has piping that redirects the air from outside the engine bay. Your filter still sits in the engine bay.

I have a 97 SE also, I recently installed a FSTB. I would HIGHLY recommend it, you can feel a huge difference when you drive.

Easy mods

SO easy to rewire the fogs. Hardest part is unbolting the reservoir for the washer fluid. The directions I linked to are what I used.

No, I have not rewired my corner lenses, it doesn't really interest me.

I understand that it's not cold air, I actually changed the label this morning.

I think my next mod is either the FSTB or a free flowing muffler.

Re: Re: Perhaps you need to reset you ECU?

The battery may be out, but the ECU's eprom takes at least half a day to completely forget. The service manual says to leave the battery dis-connected for approx 24 hours, or use a screwdriver to reset the ecu.

The CAI install takes at most 4 hours, so the computer probably still has the old setup.

This is just some guessing...
Did you install and drive it while it was hot?
Do you drive to work in morning hours?

Yes to both would make sense. I have a Stillen intake and it drives like 2 different cars. In the morning when its about 55, the car runs great. When I come home from work and it's about 100 out, the car feels bogged down.
