Voltmeter? I have a good idea...

Hey guys,
I think it would be great to have a Voltmeter in my car now since I will have multiple amps running and other things.

Heres my idea:

Find a small digital voltmeter and cut a hole in the blank space next to the cruise control switch on the dash (left of the steering wheel)

Now all I need to do is find a small voltmeter. I have no idea where to look. I have looked on ebay, but all I can find is the fused Distrubition block w/ digital voltmeter. This one looks great but i would want to rip out the voltmeter and put it up front, I have no use for the block.

Tell me what you guys think

Dude.... save yourself the 'ducats' and get a small, square voltage display from Radio Shack, put it where your coin holder is, and call it a day. Money saved and problem solved, all in one!

I have one in my car for about a year now. It works great. It shows voltage, inside and outside temp. I bought it because it looked like it was gonna fit in the little rectangular coin tray but it was a lil too long so i velcro taped to the area in front of the coin tray and behind the shifter. It would look cooler if it was had a blue or white LED background but its puke green like the stock GXE guages. It cost about $30 bucks. Its very useful cuz my car was eating alternators like crazy and i wanted to know when the voltage was low so i wouldn't bump the system. Be careful because it may be distracting sometimes watching the voltage.

I'll post pics later tonight and i'll find a link to where to got it if i can find it.

Found the link: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/thermotech.html

this one says it runs on 5v or 9v, so might have to do a resistor or something, but its cheap.

Ok guys, I use my coin tray, so that wouldn't work out to well. I like the size of MrGone's, but it will only run off 5V or 9V.

On a different note, would I just have to hook it up to each terminal on my battey?

You and that cigarette lighter. You wanna blow up someone else's car?? LOL j/k

I dunno... I kinda like the one johnnyo319 posted. Yeah, it's a bit longer than Shawn's example, (and I use MY coin holder too - so I know what you're talkin about) but velcro-ing it just forward of the tray wouldn't be that bad of an idea.

or, I could get rid of the cigarette lighter all together, and put a normal voltmeter in its place. Although its kind of nice to have a cellphone charger or soemthing. I just want to make it nice and clean. Velcro isnt my style, it has to fit right in with everything else

Either way, you'd still have the problem of WHERE to mount it and have it NOT stand out.

Get an Escort Passport 8500 radar detector

It has a "voltmeter" function where it displays a real-time voltage reading to the tenth of a volt on the LED dot display, when you are not getting any radar at least...

Not only that, mine has payed for itself AT LEAST 20 times!! They run about $280. I went from abnout 4-5 tickets a year, to ZERO!

It literally detects from well over a mile away, around corners, over hills, etc... And always slow down when you see a cop, b/c one time while driving I met a cop, and evidently I had a quicker reaction time than him b/c I real quickly slowed form about 85-90 down to about 65, then i got radar... he may have only hit me b/c he saw me slow down, but I don't care, didn't get pulled over... good enough for me!!

No, I don't work for Escort!
