1 week after TransGo kit install - impressions
It's been almost a week with the kit installed in my '95 GLE with 70K miles. I re-used the Royal Purple ATF that I installed 15K miles ago, but had to suppliment it with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.
The downshift from 2-1 and 3-1 is extremely quick. When driving at about 20 mph, it only takes about 1/3 throttle to get the tranny to kick down from 2 to 1. Before the install, you would have to stomp the gas and wait 2-3 seconds before it would downshift.
Much to my dissapointament, the 1-2 upshift is still long and soft. I would guess that the transition time has only been reduced 10-20%. I was really hoping that it would be nearly as firm as running with the line pressure resistor unplugged. I'm going to have to continue on reasearching a rheostat for adjusting transmission firmness.

Was it a mistake?
How much did you pay to get it installed? Would you recommend it, I'm debating between don's or trans-go.

I've had Trans-Go for several months now. My 1-2 is actually pretty firm. 2-3 and 3-4 are soft. It is not market as a performance item, so shifts can't be expected to be hard. But it is good for shaving a few tenths off your et and should extend life. I hope you put a trans cooler on too.
After a little more driving this afternoon, I may have been a little hasty in my critizism. The 1-2 upshifts are better than the 10-20% I stated earlier; probably closer to 30-40% quicker than stock, especially at WOT.
The kit was $55.65 shipped. I did the work myself. It wasn't hard, but it was trickey. There are about 3 dozen bolts associated with the valve body (not including the pan) and they are in 6 different lengths. Some are only 1/8" different. I had to make a diagram and mark the location of each and every part. You also need neat, uncluttered area to work on the vb in case you drop a spring, retainer or ball.
BigTexan7 is right, it's about a 5 hour job.

Sinewave and Big Texan
I finally got mine up and running, I cant agree with you more when you say "clean and uncluttered work area" believe me I know this by experience. I'll be looking into a complete tranny flush within the week due to the problem I was having, even though most of the tranny fluid was drain with removal of the VB. No, a tranny flush is not necessary. I want to give it a full tank of gas before doing any WOT runs just to make sure.
sinewave where did u get the trans-go kit for $55.65 shipped? Is it supposed to extend the life of your tranny or make it worse since the shift is harder/harsher? If it's better then i'm definitely getting it when the weather gets warmer. Also how is the ride/shifts during normal driving condition around town?
I got it from Transmission Exchange Co., 800.776.1191
The kit will, hopefully, extend the life of your transmission. The longer the transition from one gear to the next, the more your clutch plates are wearing. Here is a link with a more thorough explination - http://www.txchange.com/transgo.htm
The kit does firmer than stock, but by no means is it harsh or "hi-performance".

A few more
You got the right one baby......
Second is for loser......
There's no replacement for displacement....(sorry wrong one)
Don, I'm not knocking your VB upgrade as a DIY like yourself we're (or I am) just trying to mod my car for as little as possible. I guess for the price of the kit you will get what we pay for, who knows? I've even email you a few times when I was having a problem with my kit.
