Design Engineering Inc. Exhaust Wrap impression on Warpspeed y-pipe!(pix + video!!!!)

http://www.designengineering.com/exhaust_wrap.html

After couple days going back and forth under the car, I have taken out the extra prongs, the entire heatshield, and added DEi Exhaust Wrap to aid the extra cricket/rattling sound on the flex section only. I bought 1"X50'.

DEi Exhaust Wrap on Warpspeed Y-pipe flex section...

close up view secured by intake clamps...

entire exhaust heat shield removed in my backyard along with my stock parts...

the little prongs near the cat and extra bolts in the bag...

[performance and sound]
the car felt like it pulled a little bit harder. cricket/rattling sounde decreased, nearly 0. although it still has minor cricket/rattling at idle, but i can deal with it. my bomz hybrid intake, warspeed y-pipe and magnaflow muffler creates awesome V6 sound. with some deep growl, nearly no rice at all. this video is a small test revving in my garage. the camera is set about a good 7 feet away from the exhaust. i only rev it up to 3,000rpm cuz it's kinda late to rev high. but as most of you know, after 3,000rpm the intake takes over... here's the video >>

thank you for reading. all feedbacks are welcome

haha, i don't have it anymore. DEi probably has retailers near your local autoshop. some people also picked up exhaust wrap off ebay for good price.

If you wrap the whole pipe the noise reduction will be even greater. I first only wrapped my flex section, but was not very happy with the results. I then wrapped the y-pipe from just below the front O2 sensors all the way back to where it meets the cat. I am a lot happier with this set up, a lot quieter .

Wrapping the pipe is good for your exhaust, helps the gases exit much faster and keeps the heat off your lower and upper oil pans. I recommend you guys do it.

one question though... doesn't remove the heat shield counter the whole purpose of wrapping the exhaust?

i removed it cuz i want to eliminate any possibility of extra cricket/rattling sound...

I thought the heat shield was for the small chance that you drive through grass that it does not catch on fire???? I am serious

the heat shield is metal, and heat will not stop its path through the heat shield. the bottom heat shield is also there for protection of the exhaust parts.

I bought a 50' of header wrap on EBAY for $20. Enough to wrap 4 flex sections, I double wrapped my car and will soon do the same to a friends car. I can tell you that the buzzing sound is GONE completely. The exhaust is much deeper and less farty at high rpm. As for the power gains, I can say it does NOTHING. Unless HAPPYRICEFOB had a hole in his flex I can't really see how it would change anything, just in your head.

True your arms get TIRED. It's a 20 minute job with one side of the car on a jack and the pipe still in place.

You can get exhaust wrap from Autozone, Parts America, Pep Boys, etc. I got my 50' roll of DEi from Parts America for $27.

i just used a 15' roll of header wrap and it got rid of the buzz from my budget y.

funny people are mentioning the heat shield because mine fell off last night after i went over a dip in the road. these new england winters and salt are tough on a car. the metal scraping scared the crap out of me but i was happy to only find that that fell off. i saw it about 20 feet back in the road and grabbed it so no one would pop a tire.
