your opinion on cleaning carpet

i've been waiting to clean out my tan carpet on my 97. just last week i shampoo and rinsed my mats at home by me(actually first clean in a long time) now i need to clean and shampoo my carpet. I was thinking either buy one of those handheld carpet vacuum(steam cleaner) and do it at home or take it in to car wash and have them do it. If i decide to do it at home will those handheld steam vacuum work? if so what kind of soap/shampoo should i use? what do you guys think? any tips?

thanks,
Tae

Tae, I have heard of people getting great results using a Bissel Steamer. What I would recommend is to check out www.topoftheline.com and get some of the shampoo from there.

But one other thing I recommend is getting something to pre-treat it and some folks have used OxiClean or a good spot remover to pre-treat it. You'd just have to agitate it with a brush.

In fact, I just found the very carpet shampoo you'd need. http://www.topoftheline.com/rugcarsham.html
