Ballpark Cost to Attain the Max?

Hey all, not sure of the forum rules concerning costs, but am curious to know how low one can negotiate a 04 Maxima.

I live in the Chicago area, so the number of dealers numbers well into the double digits. I have seen ads posted for a loaded (or near loaded) 04 Maxima SE from 3 or 4 dealers for $24,995! Supposedly, they even include leather (I am assuming the lowest leather package with the 6CD).

However, it seems too good to be true. MSRP on this set up would be about $29,500ish.

So, given that I am looking to get a Maxima this summer, is this what I should strive to achieve? or is $26-$27k more realistic? I love the max, but anything more than $27k seems extreme for a Nissan. At that point, I might as well leap up to the Infiniti G35 for $30-$31k

Thanks in advance

I think you're about 3-4G's low on both cars, depending on options.
If you can get a max for under 25K, get it now.

I just recently purchased an 04 Maxima SE & honestly, if someone is offering you a price around 24,995, with extra features, I would consider that to be a good offer. Then comes the fun part, once you've got them down to a price you like, let them know that you will buy at that price if they include sales & license fees in the finance. Once they hear that you'll own at a certain price, they'll usually go for stuff like that.

don't mention anything about a trade-in until u have a confirmed price. try your best to ignore the dealers early questions about whether or not u have a trade-in

And the move to a G35 is not necessarily a 'step up'. My G35 dealer wanted over $34K for the car equipped as I wanted it. Not a good deal!

The Maxima is no longer a 'midlevel' vehicle. You may not be aware the Maxima with elite package can be over $36K. You may also not be aware that such publications as Consumers Report prefer the Maxima to the G35. Having tested both, so do I.

I have seen the '04 SE with leather advertised for around $25K by a few of the big Atlanta dealers. Several of these dealers are also advertising '04 Maximas for '$5K under invoice'. I haven't bothered to call and find out whether there is a 'catch' to these offers. If legit, this is such a much better deal than the G35 there should be no hesitation.

Yeah, I figure the $25k might be a bait and switch, but think $26k is within grasp with the the base leather package. $3-4k off MSRP seems standard now here in Chicago.......

Think I may have an advantage as I am trading in a 1997 240SX SE, loaded to the hill. While I am sure it wont matter, I will certainly play up the Nissan Loyalty when it comes time...........maybe I'll tell my fiance to come with and where something provacative
