sometimes, it is just what you call a "Nissan" thing. Mine does this sometimes when I crank it up. It is not a squeal, but rather a squeak, squeak, squeak very quietly. It is annoying, and I got some belt stuff made by STP, but it only stops it for like a few days, and then it begins again.

The reason I say that it is a "Nissan" thing is that I had another maxima in the past that did the same thing. Also, my older brother has had a Sentra SE-L, GXE, and an Old Stanza that used to do it back in the day. It is just trade mark of a lot of nissans, I think.

Tighten the tensioner more and it should go away. It could also be that it's wet and so it's slipping. But just tighten the tensioner and it should go away.

I went back to Nissan to have them tighten the belts. The problem didnt go away but there has gone away somewhat. Is there anything I can do to correct this? Thanks.

my belt squeaks when i start it up, and it comes back occasionally while driving. i bought the STP belt dressing, and it works for awhile, but goes back to normal. Im not sure when the belt was last replaced, so i might look into changing it. Has anyone done this themselves? The belt looks like a mother to get to, so anyone who has done this let me know.

I have the same problem. Got the belts changed and then it occured again after a month. Mine isn't as bad in the rain. My starts are also getting worse. Seems like my battery is soetmies weak and it takes a few clicks to start. Can't be the battery, I have an Optima. starting nissans suck.

i have changed the belt but i couldn't get the pulley loose so i don't think it droped down enough. but mine squeaks also normaly when its cold and or wet. someone told me the pulley might be bad and its not spinning some of the time. u hear the belt so u think the belt need to be replaced cause is spinning over a stuck pulley.

Try shaking the idle/tensioner pulley with your hand. If there is alot of play then it may be time to change the bearings or the whole unit as a whole.

Happened to my 96 max. Just get a socket in there and tighting up the tension.. if u get the passanger front wheel off then u can take off a belt guard i guess u call it, then u can see the belt perfect and just push on it a little 2 see how much deflection is in it. I have mine a few good turns and now it doesnt do it except the otehr day it did it for about 3 seconds bc i cleaned up my engine bay. Good Luck
