Has anyone heard of any complants from this mod for the 04's?

I installed an Unorthodox Racing UDP on my 04' Max last weekend. My only complaint is that a 10 ounce piece of aluminum cost me 180 bucks!

That said, it is a beautifully machined part (no doubt made on a state-of-the-art CNC lathe), impeccably finished and built to last. I say built to last because it has a pressed on steel sleeve for the seal to ride on, which is something the cheap knock-offs don't have. The fit on the shaft was perfect.

Underdrive Pulley

To tell you the truth.....I can't really tell. I hadn't driven the car for a couple of days before I put the pulley on, so no immediate comparison was possible. I already have the Injen CAI installed, which seemed to make a big difference. The only positive way to tell would be the track or a dyno.

All I know is that when I ring down to engine room for more power, the steering wheel tries to rip itself out of my hands and the seat pushes against my back. That's good enuff for me!

Good enough for me too...

One last question did you have to get a new belt?

Thanks,Wil

Where did you purchase the UDP and how hard was the install. May not be the right season, but are there any problems with the A/C or any other components due to the UDP being a smaller diameter and rotating quicker. I've heard of others having problems with aftermarket UDP's.

I bought my UDP from Southwest Autoworks. http://www.southwestautoworks.com/

It took me a couple of hours to install because I don't have a service manual and it took me a while to figure out how to loosen the tension on the belts. Plus the big bolt that fixes the pulley to the end of the crank is torqued on at about 140 ft.lbs. and since I have an automatic trans there is no good way to keep the motor from turning when you try to loosen it. Fortunately, I have the biggest air ratchet on the planet (it is 3/4" drive), which got the bolt out in a hurry, once I unhooked the pressure regulator to my compressor and got all 160 lbs. of air to it. After that, it was a piece of cake!

For the record, the underdrive pulley turns slower than the stock pulley. (It's not called an overdrive pulley!) Turning slower and being lighter in weight is how you gain more ponies.

I have had my pulley on for a few weeks and had no problems.

You have to buy two new belts, both slightly shorter than the stock ones. They cost me about 35 bucks at NAPA (Gates brand).
