What causes clutch shudder?
Over the past few months my clutch has started to shudder when I engage 1st gear. If I let it out fast or extremely slow it's ok, but under normal driving there it shudders enough to make the exhaust bang a little.
Last time I was at the dealer for something else I asked them to look at the clutch and they said I had plenty left (I would hope so with only 49K on the car).
What causes this and more importantly, is there an easy cure?

I just went thru the same symptons that you described. for my case it was oil leaking from the rear main seal into the clutch, so had to get that seal replaced and new clutch kit installed.
IT could be the same or that your clutch has developed hot spots that cause the shudder, also the flywheel might need to be resurfaced.
At any rate expect to have to replace your clutch to get rid of the shudder.....

I think the rattle I am hearing is not the exhaust but the rear deck vibrating. Didn't you do something to fix that rattle?
well the rattle that was coming from the rear deck was due to the the sub and me listening to the music to loud. it was not from everyday driving. i cut up a twin mattress foam padding to the shape of the rear deck and stuffed it back there.
Most likely the clutch needs to be replaced. Its normally caused by uneven wear on the flywheel or "hotspots" as was stated earlier. Just be sure that the shop that replaces it re-surfaces the flywheel or replaces it new or it will just continue to happen.
