I have no clue what it is, but when I start the car it has a bad rumble to it, and a rough idle also

Well, I don't know what it is, might go to the dealership tomorrow and ask em, but for now I'm going to try to drive it. Hopefully it won't catch fire or anything

Ditto. Its got to be some sort of A/C sensor. Its a pressurized, insulated line its in. It won't pose a danger.

I was thinking, could be wrong, but... Could it be the themometer thing? It's been at 53 ever since I did it, and its really 71. Dunno though..

That is your power steering pressure sensor. It sends input to the ECM when the steering system is under load so it can adjust engine speed to prevent stalling the engine.

The outside temp sensor is in the front end of the car. You will just have to buy another power steering pressure sensor, install it and plug it back into the harness. Time to call Dave B.

I'm looking at a drawing of it right now, and it matches your pics.

From the Electronic Service Manual...

"Power steering pressure (PSP) sensor is installed to the power steering high-pressure tube and detects a power steering load. This sensor is a potentiometer which transforms the power steering load into output voltage, and emits the voltage signal to the ECM. The ECM controls the ETC actuator and adjusts the throttle valve opening angle to increase the engine speed and adjusts the idle speed for the increased load."

Good luck.

Peace.

Someone else posted tht they had done this a while back too...it was the P/S sensor, and he said his steering was VERY heavy (as if he did not have P/S) until he got it fixed......car should still be driveable, but be really careful bc you may have to put some muscle into steering if your P/S is messed up.

Close, our Maximas have speed sensitive steering. More power when at slow speeds (manuevering a parking lot) less at highway speed. The computer probably doesn't know what to do.

Of course it knows what to do. At highway speeds, you would not ever put a load on your power steering because you can't do a high speed u-turn. If you turn your wheels to extreme right or left, the p/s system will be loaded and produce high pressure. If idle speed was not adjusted by the ECM, the rpm's would drop to the point that the engine could easily stall. Just as when you turn on your A/C compressor or high amperage drawing systems on the car.

Did you look at the link I provided? It's the pressure switch in that diagram. Just tell him that you need a new power steering pressure switch (sensor) for your car. It may be safe to drive as long as there is no fluid coming out of the exposed end of the switch when you turn the steering wheel. Keep an eye on it and your fluid level in the reservoir.

its actually running to 2 rails on the front and the back of the motor, the front one runs under the boost sensor.

Does it reallly matter where it runs to? His pressure switch is broken and he needs a new one. The switch goes in the pressure line shown in his pictures.
