proper oil level on VE
proper oil level on VE
Since the search isn't working, I'll just post this, even though it's probably already been addressed.
I recently changed the oil on my VE, and after filling it with new oil, including prefilling the filter, the crankcase took just over 3 litres upon the dipstick reading full. I did the change with the Toyota filter, so I figured with smaller capacity than the Nissan filter, there would be less oil in the system. I still figured there was some oil missing somewhere, as even with the filter capacity difference, a whole litre is a lot of oil. I was checking the oil again today, this time right after shutting off the engine, just to see if there was a difference when suddenly I thought "if the filter has an anti drainback valve, shouldn't there be oil in the top of the engine, therefore making for less total oil in the crankcase." I checked the level, and sure enough, it seemed to be down a bit. Now I'm running about 3.5 litres in the engine. If memory serves, the capacity is 3.9L, so at present I'm about .4 litres short. I could see something like .3-.4 litres being the capacity difference in the filters, given the absorbtion capacity of the filtration material. I know at this stage, i'm talking about 1/10s of a litre, but i'm a bit ****, the kind of guy that likes to keep the oil level on the fill line, down to the last ounce. Anyhow, I was just wondering if this is common, and if anyone has any similar thoughs, comparions, ideas, etc.
