The chrome paint is fading off my MAXIMA and GLE emblems on the trunk. I was thinking of taking them off and repainting them either black or chrome.
What should I use as glue to put them back on?

 

3M double sided tape.

 

Should I just stick it to the back of the emblem, cut along the letters so tape doesn't show between them and stick back on?

 

use the double sided tape.... stick the emblems to the tape and trim around the emblems.... if you can find a auto paint supplier they should have the thinner tape... if you use the standard tape it kinda jacks up the emblems... make sure you take the time to clean off all the old tape....later

 

with bug and tar remover, right?
Should I use some alcohol to wipe it down afterwards, so the tape sticks better?

 

the bug a tar remover will work ok for the trunklid but you will have to peel it off the emblems.... it will take some time to do ....but you will be much happier with the end result if you take the time now...

 

You can buy the emblems from the dealer brand new and ready to peel and stick for fairly cheap. If I remember right when I asked in the past, the MAXIMA is only about $17 bucks. The GLE should be cheaper. Save yourself some time and just buy it, peel and stick. Unless you want to paint it something else, other than the chrome look.

I might do that if I am gonna go with chrome.
Otherwise I will use drifter and bigD's suggestions and go with black.
I am still debating on the color.

 

How about black chrome? Maybe some anodized paint?

i don't know how much the hamburger is but the MAXIMA emblem was like $14 when i bought one... i painted mine black & it looks good on my color i don't know about painting it black on balck....won't be seen much...but than again...it'll look like shaved from far away and it should look really good up close...

 

Mine are painted gunmetal, 3M tape hasn't given me a problem yet!
