I was wondering if anyone has experienced a big difference between nissan OEM brake rotors and cheaper ones, such as those sold on ebay??? What pads you use??? Thanks for the help.

 

I suggest brembos or oem, the ebay "performance rotors" are a POS

especially if they are cross drilled!!!

 

just go to NAPA or your local parts store and get OEM-style rotors. They are just as good, and then just get some good pads.
A lot of people suggest Raybestos Quietstop pads, for low dust, high performance, and long lasting, and no squeal.

 

get slotted rotors.

 

I'd go OEM for sure, because what I found when I was browsing was that they are actually cheaper online than Beck/Arnleys at the local auto parts store. They were the same as the Bendix. And at around $60-$68 depending on F or R, why bother with cheapos that cost $35? Calipers are the only component where OEM is prohibitively expensive.

 

I always get the cheapo rotors/pads at Autozone. They have a lifetime warranty, and stop just as well as the OEM ones. They don't warp like the OEM rotors, though.

Hmm. Last time I got rotors at Autozone, they only had a 6mo or year warrantee--not lifetime! They are working out great though. The Brembo front rotors I bought started warping after only 8k miles. I think I will just stick to Autozone from now on.

 

I stand corrected...the warranty on my rotors is only 3mo. The pads had lifetime, though.

That's all you really need, though. My rotors have been on there for a couple of years and have yet to warp. I'm religeous about changing the pads, though, so your mileage may vary.

 

Not sure why your OEM's warped, because I have mid 90's on my car and none of the rotors have been replaced, no pulsation whatsoever. imho when you figure you're gonna spend the time to remove the hardware, $61.43 for a front, or $69.13 for a rear OEM rotor is worth the money. It's as a matter for fact cheaper than a Beck/A rotor from Autozone. I think there are rotors that go for the high $20's, but I still think the value is there with OEM. In reality, nobody on this forum is gonna have the car long enough to have to worry about them a 2nd time.

 

I decided on brembo rotors w/out slots or drilling $70 pair and some autozone ceramic pads $30 w/2yr Warranty. Thanks for the help.

 

The OEM rotors (IIRC) are famous for warping. I'll have to do a search to refresh my memory.

Spend the time to remove the hardware? It doesn't take very long to do the brakes.

At that price, I could replace my rotors/pads 4 times for the price of one of your OEM rotors.

I know the name Valucraft doesn't inspire confidence, but I am 100% satisfied with them.

 

The brakes are one of the MOST important components of your car. Don't ever get cheap on them! I got powerslots up front with hawk pads. They feel and perform great.

 

Why did you cheap out, SuperFishstick? You should have gotten an AP big brake kit; the brakes are the most important part, you know

Seriously, though, it's not like the cheapo rotors are going to crack or provide a lot less stopping power than the more expensive 'performance' ones.

And I'll bet the bank they provide as much stopping power as the OEM disks. (I can do that, I'm poor )

 

sort of OT, I wanna know how the **** they have lifetime break pads, that you never have to change, what are they made of? they must EAT rotors...

 

They're normal semi-metallic pads.

It's kinda cool...if you bring the pads back, they give you new ones. It's that simple.

I guess they make enough money on people that don't bother to do it.

 

With my old OEM rotors and pads, when i braked hard from above 100, they would FADE right away. The current setup has not disapointed me yet... lets keep it that way.. (knock on wood )
