I'm installing the Redline e-brake boot right now and I can't figure out how to remove the rubber shift boot. Also, Redline's how-to at http://www.redlinegoods.com/Maxima2K2install.shtm mentions on step 7, "It's obvious which side is which, since one side is all slits, and the other side is a line of studs." What is it referring to? The factory boot or the Leather boot? Can anyone assist?

 

have you taken the center console out and looked at the underside of where the boot attaches? It should be pretty obvioius, assuming the 2k2 is the same as the 2k...

 

Okay, I've removed the rubber boot, but I'm unclear on how you put the e-brake boot on in it's place. Did you just cut holes for all the "teeth" that hold the rubber boot in place?

 

you can see them here....after you do this part, put the OEM rubber boot below it to lock it in. It's tough to do but will work.

if you look closely the redline boot should already have holes and slits cut in it...mine did, they are just kind of hard to see.

 

Well, that explains my confusion - They forgot to cut the slits and holes in mine. Trust me, I've looked at it VERY closely. No biggie though, I'm happy with how it looks coming through the center of the rubber boot for now.

Hah! Hey, I finally got the stupid thing in just before dark. I managed to drop one of the screws for the armrest into the black unknown under the carpeting. Smooooth.

However, I'm happy with the look:

Interesting....housecor. I see you put the original rubber piece ON TOP of the boot. I did the opposite and but it UNDER the boot...so it keeps the shape but the entire boot is leather...

 

I think the 5th gen and 5.5th gen boots must be different...

 

Yeah, I decided to put the rubber boot on top because I prefer the boot be pulled tight rather than bunched up. I suppose I could punch holes high on the boot and mount the boot that way to avoid the bunching, but I'm liking the look as is.

 

yeah it looks good....since the 5.5th gen have the different shifter baseplate, the way you did it looks cleaner on your car. For the early 5th gen I prefer it bunched up some....I initially put it on the way you have it and wasn't feeling the look in my car - but then again the rubber piece on mine is brown in color while yours is black so it blends better.

Damn we got some nice lookin ebrake boots bro.
