Installed CAI today-

A friend and I put on an ebay CAI (through fender) today and after a couple of test drives, my conclusions: 1) didn't feel much HP gain at any end 2) past 3500 rpm's the sound is loud but nice ( I think it sounds a little like a Mustang or something like that) 3) under 3000 rpm's I didn't hear a sound. No difference at all. I liked this aspect a lot. I drove the car for about 20 minutes and drove it like I usually do (slow and steady) and even got up to 60 MPH. All the while the rpm's never got above 2500. I noticed nothing. No sound. But once you punch it........man is it LOUD!!! I did notice that my car is idling so much better now. Very smooth, around 600rpm's. This could be because I also changed the fuel filter, pcv valve, spark plugs (ngk coppers), and cleaned the throttle body. Overall, the car seems to be running a lot better after the days work (but I dont know why exactly). Bottom line: if you are thinking about getting a CAI, get one from ebay, read the wonderful "how to" section of this forum, and enjoy the growling sound.

LMAO i had my car damn near three years and didnt start modding till about january. all the stuff in my sig was just added within the last 3-4 months. (except cd player which i had for about 1.5 years) i started out really late. i wish i started modding sooner i guess its my friend who really hyped me up since we are starting up our car club when he comes home so i want my car tight when he gets here ( he has a military job so he makes a crap load more than i and more than likely he can have 50% of his car done within months)

cornbread i hope you enjoy your CAI, its not too late to jump in on the warpspeed y-pipe deal if u havent already, it ends saturday but im sure if u drop your info in the thread u can pay after. good luck

Part of the reason you didnt notice any difference from the ebay cai.......is the sub par filter....you get what you pay for . Replace it with a k&n filter or an apexi and you'll notice more gains.

As for the Y-pipe, its already paid for just waiting.......

As for the throttle response, I didnt really feel a difference.

As for the K&N filter, ordered one, it will be here on Monday (I ordered RU-2820) does anyone know if that is correct?

I kinda hope that the y-pipe is not louder than the CAI. I hope it gives it some boost though.

I got my Y-pipe on the other day and it sounds good at idle and I like the hum of it while driving regular but if I punch it my intake is way louder. This is while i have stock cat back.

do you get any rasp when WOT or high rpm? Does it fart any when letting off the throttle?

Yah when I rev up at a stop light or something it sounds like a snare drum beating a drum roll. and sometimes it sounds like backfire or the fart you called it after a high rev or in between shifts.

Will a catback system take care of these. and what is the wrasp sound from.

The rasp is from the y-pipe. The catback system will only exaggerate that sound that you are hearing. I would just keep your stock muffler and stock resonator, and put a custom 2.5" b-pipe on there and call it good. It will still have a little of that sound, but it will not be loud. You will get a little more power from the 2.5" piping too.

Hey cornbread, I thought you were just going to take the CAI and sell it and then keep your stock airbox.

Here is the link to the same exact CAI that I purchased. It works great. For some reason, my K&N filter from Auto Zone came in today instead of next week. RU-2820 is the right model number (I kind of guessed when I ordered it). It is much bigger than the one that comes in the kit but when done correctly it fits snug. Throttle response is much smoother now with the K&N filter. Thanks for all of the replies everyone.

Let us see, two slutty women they show trying to do what again? Performance engineering has what to do with models sitting in a riced-out car? Horrible sentence structure and indefinite word choice can only lead back to ignorance. Poor quality parts and design can only lead to sub-par results.

No thanks, I rather spend twice the money and get something that was actually engineered to increase performance or build my own. Oh, and just for the record, I do not buy any of their propaganda. Sorry, just my overly critical opinion.
