Ever notice more auto tranny slip during...

Have you all ever noticed while going up a good-sized hill with OD on....and it downshifts into 3rd....and if you ever turn OD off when it has downshifted into 3rd...RPM's drop 200 rpm or so everytime?

Does this mean that when the tranny uses all four gears...it lets the tranny "slip" more???

So in other words...going up hill....

With OD on...and in 3rd...RPMS = 3600
With OD off...and in 3rd...RPMS = 3400

Both scenarios going the same exact speed.

What's the deal? I know this happens everytime..not a figment of my imagination....but why? I've noticed this for quite awhile now.

Thanks!
