Vehicle lights dimming when using window switches...Normal?

Does anyone else have this problem, whenever i put my windows up/down or open/close the sunroof, it seems to drain a lot of power and dims my headlights- and if my dome light is on, it will dim that too.... is this normal? maybe weak alternator?

I got this problem too. My dash light dims when I am using window switches, brake, and even emergency hazard light.

I tried to do this when the car is off (key to ACC position), turn on the lights....and guess what, everything still dims like just like when the engine is running.

Is this time for a new battery? I have a hyperground installed and the battery to chassis ground connection is recently cleaned.

You guys, ground wouldnt make any difference... i dont even understand wtf hyper ground is for other than looks?! ground is ground fellas. and its definatly not the battary, because thats not whats powering your car when the vehicle is on. I just want to know if its normal... or is it a weak alternator

hyper ground

hyper ground kits actually do work, for this particular problem i dont think that the hyper ground is gonna fix your problem, use a voltmeter and check to see how much power the alternator is giving out and check to see if its between spec. requirements.

Pretty sure its normal-- my 1999 Maxima has always done the same thing.
Those power windows are pretty strong and require alot of juice.

I also think it is normal. I bought a new battery and it did not make a difference. The lights still dimm.

As normal as I would like to believe, I don't think this is normal. My gf's Maxima, 97 SE, does not do this. I tried this on my friend's Maxima, and his does not do this either.

At first, I thought this is due to the alternator. Then, I tried using the power window/brake while the car is off (key to ACC position) but the same thing still happens.

I was about to buy a brand new Optima battery, but then another poster stated that this won't do any good.

Both if the maxes in my family do it. When I had the hyper ground kit and 12 awg headlight harness in the 96 i dont think it did it much or at all. I hate it still, but the upgraded wires do help.

the chrysler cars i work on do the same things, along with my moms two saturns she had. they just seem to require alot of power and the alternator is barely handling that job along with powering the rest of the car.

Since upgrading my alternator to a 200amp setup, I don't have this problem anymore. You guys can look in the General Forum for both of my threads about the 200 amp alternator.
