except he hasn't put the little center nissan logo in yet.

Swaps directly, and now I have his old steering wheel on my car yaaay

Takes a whole 5 mins to swap, hardest part is putting the horn thing back on with out honking the horn (bah! at pulling the fuse )

I swapped a '92SE wheel into my '89 GXE (yay, no more star trek). It wasn't a direct swap, but with a few brain cells and the parts car I was able to pull it off. Horn and cruise still work.

That looks really good - plus it's Nissan, whoot. Is it just as easy to swap for us unlucky guys with an airbag? Has anyone tried that before, and if it does swap, how does that affect insurance coverage? I get a safety discount from the 'bag....

Unlucky? Hmm...I don't know if finding your head still remaining on your shoulders after an otherwise catastrophic accident would make you feel too unlucky.

In my old black 1992 Maxima (se auto) I had an air bag, I was involved in a crash at over 100mph, The air bag did NOT go off. I was wearing my seat belt and walked away from the car with minor seatbelt rash.

Pezking4 on the other hand hit a curb at ~5mph or so IIRC and his air bag went off, he had minor burns on his arms.

Just the 2 extreme's. I do like air bags, but when you think about it, our cars are still using the first generation of air bags. It was new technology back then, so I would still be abit weary of them.

here's the pic of my steering wheel. I found it on ebay for $20, but it took me a long time to find a cheap one with the cruise buttons. I think basically any Nissan non-airbag steering wheel from around the same years (this would include JDM ones like from s13s/Sylvias, etc) will work if you don't have an airbag, but the ones that have cruise would be better, since all maximas come with cruise.

As for the airbag and insurance, the VIN number will tell the insurance company that you have an airbag. I imagine most won't even notice you don't have an airbag even if they inspect the car.

I have no clue as to what wheels with an airbag will work. I would guess that you would need to make sure it has the same kind of plug on it. I would also guess that any Nissan wheel with the same type of airbag system (from the same years 92-94) would work.

Maybe even a 2nd gen airbag (say out of a 5th gen Maxima) might work if the plugs are the same. I think the difference in the airbag has to do with how hard the part in the steering wheel deploys, not anything else. Don't quote me on that one, though. On the cars I've had with airbags, I just leave that crap alone.

Hit the front? The airbag sensors are in the front bumpers I believe. So if you don't do somthing to trip them, they won't off. Mine didn't go either but I was rearended.

yup.. Shawn, you whacked whatever it was on the side of the car.. the sensor on the front of the car, just to the right of center.. had you hit it another foot over toward the center, the airbag would have gone off.

I've been in about 5 wrecks (only 1 my fault!) in the last 4 years in my Maximas, and the only time the airbag went off was when I fell asleep at the wheel and t-boned a truck going about 40.
all the rest were side impacts, or lower-speed, high weight (dumptruck drove over the hood) accidents and the airbag never went off.
it functioned as it should have.

yeah, I want one too, but the cost is a bit much for me, since I'd have to pay even more to have it painted.

EBAY Steering wheel

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...473667636&rd=1

1992 Stanza Steering wheel looks pretty sporty with the 3 spoke design... just need to find the center cap with the horn. Should look similar to 1992REDMAXSE's 240sx wheel but with the buttons in a different place... might be a bit smaller and free up some leg room.

I think mine is the same one. Mine is just marginally smaller than the stock Maxima one and I think it's just a little thicker.

I only paid $20 (+shipping) from ebay and it came with the center piece and the center Nissan "hamburger" logo (I need to glue it on). It looks like the Stanza, 240sx and possibly the 300zx (looks the same) use the exact same wheel.

If you notice...from the picture i think the center cover is smaller on the stanza, and the three spindles are a bit longer to accomodate the cruise buttons.

oh, you are right. I never noticed that (just saw the three spokes)...I think mine is the same as the 300zx one, while the one you are looking it is in both the Stanza and some 240sx. I know I have seen one before, especially without the cruise buttons but I am not sure about the size difference.

Hey Edzmax, which steering hub did you use to install that wood momo steering wheel? I was looking at putting one (momo) in my max. Did everything line up ok, what problems did you run into? Could you still wire it so that cruise and horn still work?

Does anyone know what it will take to install a 97 4th gen steering wheel to a 93 gxe I think those steering wheels look good if I can pull it off

Well, I used a HYB boss kit, u can get them from where u get the steerting wheel from. I did run into where my horn wouldnt work, but got the guys who installed my system to rewire the horn. I can rewire the cruise control, but here in New Zealand, we dont really need cruise control
