I would say YES... our cars have very advanced electronics, so what's an extra chip for Mr. NISSAN? Big brother (or aliens) are watching....

NO.

It is mostly GM vehicles that have them. That mentality still hasn't reached the japanese, though with newer models being made here and for here, you never know in a few more years...

THey are probably wired to the tranny and ecu so that if it's removed the car won't run.

Subaru is considering to add them, so I heard.

Seems that a lot of car manufacturers, who put out high performance cars, worry about warranty work and suspect abuse / aftermarket parts to be the cause, hence the installation of the boxes. I heard the STI and EVO are the biggest worries.

I think its ridiculous to do that and not tell the owner that they're being watched. Either way I don't think it will really work because someone will figure out a way to take them out or erase their data. The worst I ever heard was a type of box that would keep track of your speed and automatically issue you tickets.

You must not have gone to Nissan school yet. Our cars have one of the slowest ECU's on the market. Thats why I can only get my Auterra to read 6 samples/sec. I agree with Kevlo, at the time that most 4th gens were built Nissan was on its last legs. FYI, check this out. Anyone else notice that Nissan is always extremely slow. Maybe they changed this by now(Doubtful seeing as the 02 spec is 6/sec). Actually, hopefully they changed this by now. I don't want the $30K Z's reading slow as dinosaurs when I get one in several years.

a friend of mine got locked up because of that. he has a mercedes 600
and went to go visit this girl a couple of times. next thing you know the cops come and lock him up. he later found out the girls brother was a
car thief and had stolen cars in the garage. the police tracked my friends onstar showing him close to the stolen cars. after the smoke cleared they realized it was a big misunderstanding and let him go.
these devices allow them to track your every movement which is scarey.

I hope that you’re right... I honestly don't have clue how fast our ecu is or how many zeros it can store... what I do know that the black box needs to store just how fast you were going, on what date, and if you hit the brakes or not... that's it !!! My microwave does more then that BTW: how fast is your cell phone??? hint hint !!! Big Bro is here to stay.
