200 Miles To A Full Tank??? Help PLZ

just picked up a 00 maxima and i got 200 miles to the tank is that possible or is there somthing wrong i mean damn thats crazy. I dont feel anything wrong with the engine like it needing a tune up but what could it be? I have done injen cold air intake and an under drive pully to the engine. Also on a cold start like only a min warm up small hesitation while driving feel it more in 2nd gear at a steady throttle position? normal?

you can't "feel" if the car needs a tune up.

if you just picked up a car, a good idea would be to do the following:
1. oil change
2. spark plugs
3. injector cleaning
4. clean throttle body

I would check the MAF. Sometimes even when it goes bad it won't throw a check engine light and will make ur gas mileage go down the well. I remember when I got my 1st SE-R like 6 years ago or so.... the MAF went out right after the CAI install... and I got like 120 to a tank.

Listen to Larrio. You may also want to look at changing the fuel filter.

My car is an 01 Max. Right now am keeping track of the milage. I put $20.50 which translate to 10.793 gallons at $1.899 Exxon gas. It you divide the total miles per gallon is 23.4 mpg. This is in Florida, including HWy and City. I think is fine. Is it?

ok ill have to give it a tune up then and see what happens its wierd though now since i filled it up again i put almost 100 miles and it only killed little more then 1/4 of my tank so at this rate ill get somewhere in the 300's if it keeps up but in a matter of 2 days and my first 200 miles on my car it just sucked it up.

Try different brands of gas it helps i think bp and exxon are the best imo.. When i use those brands i always seem to get more out of the car.It also depends on how u drive do u slam on it all the time or sometimes do u hwy driving or city that all comes into play.. The mpg on the window stickers only apply to normal driving conditions and basically thats just straight open road with no traffic. Over here in the city i almost get to 300 to a tank but sometimes i have to get on the gas pedal so that eats up more gas. Well good luck...

Cheap Gas?

I have only had my 2000 Max SE since September, but I have gone thru the same thing, awlful mileage for a while then it seemed to get a little better, here is what i suspect could contribute to it.

Previous owner ran garbage gas in it?
Conventional Oil, not Synthetic, I like the synthetic, they say 1 mpg more with it, that would had 15 miles to the tank.

Front end alignment, crooked tire don't roll staight.

Dirty Throttle Body, this is a big cause of poor mpg.

Brake Rotors, warped rotors can do it.

I use Exxon gas almost exclusively, changed my rotors, cleaned the throttle body, installed a JWT Pop Charger with a Berk intake, big mpg gains on this mod.

I was getting like 225 to a tank, and that was red light empty, now I am up over 330, and this is highway stop and go, route 270 in Maryland, highway trip the other week I got 400.

Hope this helps.

I get 300 miles while driving my car hard to work every day, It includes lots of quick launches, 2nd gear chirps at redline... basically driving like an a.ss. When driving like a normal person I got 510 miles on a tank driving on the interstate doing 70 the whole time. Mods really help out with MPG alot, it makes the engine more efficient. Its funny but on a SR20DE powered car once people install a turbocharger on it, their gas mileage improves also... some of us get 36MPG on the highway on our tunned to perfection turbo SR20s- stock for stock VQ30DE-K 5spd has better gas mileage than a stock SR20DE.

ok tkx ppl imma have to try some things i do have one bent rim my left rear is little bent i think its from a pot hole i hit so gonna see if the city will pay for it. ill end up giving it a tune up and clean the TB. dont mean to sound dumb but whats a JWT Pop Charger whats it do? i do have a injen intake and thats supposed to help it but i still only went like 215 miles on this weeks tank so its still pretty bad with these near $2.00 prices its killing me.

bent rim is not going to throw off ur MPG. JWT Pop Charger makes your car pop and throw flames out the exhaust when you shift gears. Ever seen 2Fast2Furrious ? Yeah all of em cars had it.

A JWT Pop Charger is nothing more than a excellent air filter, just like the K&N but better.

Save you money on the Injen Cold Air, you can get the same HP gains from a Berk intake or a FrankenCar if u have 3 months to wait for it.

One of my concerns with the Injen is it locates the air filter, right behind the radiator, which is hot air being forced right in on the air intake. It also lengthens the air tube, to several feet, like sucking beer thru a straw, versus drinkin from a mug, mugs faster!

Here is a link, http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/cus...asp?PartID=359

I really like this filter, has a awesome sound, louder than the K&N, and I think it is better quality, I think they still make the Stillen intakes, they look exactly alike, aside from the Stillen emblem.

No flames, and the only pop i hear is when I slam it to the floor, more like a roar. Does hiss and whistle though, like a turbo.

Fix the bent rim, wobbling wheels are bound to eat extra gas, ever ride a bike with a bent rim, tell me u didn't have to pedal harder.

Good luck,

Don

I get less than 200 on a full tank. Is it possible that a mechanic tampered with o2 sensors, so it doesnt throw a code? Like hardwire it somehow?

I've only ever gotten a around 220-250 miles to a tank with all hard city driving--I think that's 15 or so which if I recall from the sticker 17 is the low end of the federal rating. Mine has been in the dealership and been serviced even before I put on the pop charger--actually they put it on. I guess I'll ask the next time I go back but that will probably be a while...
