Dropping the Max
Dropping the Max
I'm curious about a few things regarding dropping my Maxima.
1. Why do you drop the car? Is only handling improved or does the car accelerate better due to less wind resistance?
2. What's a good drop for a Maxima running fifteens?
3. What are coilovers and why would you chose them over aftermarket springs/shocks?
4. What would be the best combination of springs and shocks (or just coilovers) to achieve a 1.5-2" all-around drop? Comfort is important however, I'm no stranger to a sporty suspension.
I've read the stuff at http://maxmods.dyndns.org/ but wanted real-person perspectives on these questions; if you have a particular set, please comment.

1) I highly doubt it would do anything to wind resistence. Reduce wheel hop maybe though?
3) Coilovers let you adjust the ride height.

1. dropping your car is for looks and handling. I doubt that you save all that much on wind resistance....not enough to matter.
2. What do you mean what is a good drop for a maxima running 15's? I mean, I am @ 15.1 right now, and I have not dropped mine yet.
3. coilovers are a spring shock setup that are integrated into each other. They are really stiff....I mean, really really stiff. I would not choose them over springs shocks/struts.
4. If you are wanting the ultimate comfort, you would probably need to stick to the H&R's with some Tokico Illuminas or something like that. It would drop it about 1.5", but would be very comfy. Handling would be better too. However, there are a lot of spring choices around that drop. I have heard that is makes more difference what struts you use rather than springs.
