wheel bearing out at 60K?

My car all of sudden started making a horrific noise (kind of a roar) coming from front right. I took it into the dealer and the wheel bearing was bad on just the front right wheel - the bad bearing caused a lot of other damage too...good thing I had the extended warranty. Only 60k miles...is this common for a 2k2 ? Dealer said they looked at the other wheel and it's fine. Should I go ahead and replace it myself anyway?

My 00 had a bad right bearing at about 50+ but there is no need to change the other if there is no problem.

Hi TMcD,
What kind of noise did you have? How did it sound like? Recently, my car has some noise coming from front right too. I am not sure it is wheel bearing or not.

Yes, a loud humming noise. Sounds like you are driving a cement truck.

Unlike my other wheel bearing experiences, '86 GTI which seemed to eat wheel bearings, the MAX was a bit different and only really made noise while cornering. Then it would hum and sort of groan. What was weird is that it didn't make any noise at all on the highway. I thought something was rubbing...I must have been under that car 4 or 5 times looking for something.
